We currently have an exciting opening for a Director of Development & External Affairs reporting to the President/CEO.  This position will take lead on driving relationships with diverse sets of stakeholders that include elected officials, civic leaders, policy makers, executives, and donors.  Will ensure each partner, donor, and or volunteer receives outstanding recognition, responsive reporting, compelling volunteer experiences, exciting event invitations, and tailored opportunities that impact our work. They will oversee all stewardship priorities by managing and advancing fund administration and gift administration. This position reports to the President & CEO and partners with the Fundraising Consultants and board Development & Communication Committee.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing a strategy for donor care and leading, implementing, and directing a comprehensive program of donor relations and stewardship plans designed to acknowledge and recognize all donors.
  • Developing policy, quality control guidelines, and standards for all donor recognition programs.
  • Segmenting giving levels and creating new and innovative programs that speak to the organization's mission.
  • Direct liaison with board Development & Communication Committee, responsible for setting schedule, agendas, minutes, and follow-ups.
  • Public sector: monitoring opportunities issued by public agencies such as DOHMH, H+H and more for RFD’s, public contracts, bidding and more. Additionally, monitoring political developments and key legislation in the city, state, and federal governments.
  • Non-profits: establishing pipelines to Phoenix House from foundations in the public health, and social justice spheres.
  • In conjunction with Fundraising Consultants, directing acknowledgment, cultivation, and stewardship efforts with an eye to moving donors through the pipeline from mid-level to philanthropic giving.
  • Developing and maintaining "high-touch" donor care programs, such as support for those donating personal milestone gifts, to leverage top-notch donor care into lifetime giving.
  • Developing policy, quality control guidelines, and standards for all donor recognition programs.
  • Managing and leading stewardship with the goals of retaining donors and maximizing their lifetime value through the delivery of outstanding customer service

 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience working with donor relations and stewardship.
  • Ability to establish measurable goals and objectives; develop and implement strategies to achieve.
  • Proven ability to work with colleagues and donors across multiple departments.
  • Excellent communication (written & oral) skills.
  • Organizational, project and priority management skills for planning, executing and follow through. 
  • Ability to write documents but are not limited to grants, legislation, and political plans. 
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
