Organization Overview

At Common Future, we imagine a future where people, no matter their race or ethnicity, have power, choice, and ownership over the economy. Founded in 2001, we know that the ideas, models, and solutions that can restore community wealth already exist, they just require attention and investment. We work with hundreds of community leaders and funders through flexible initiatives that build inclusive economies. These initiatives are centered around shifting capital, uplifting local leaders, and advising the development of equitable economies. We are a 22 person organization (and growing). Our culture values equity, experimentation, continuous learning, collaboration, trust, and the wellbeing of our employees. Read more about us on our Medium page.

Position Overview

Common Future (CF) seeks a mid-level manager to join our four person Capital Strategies and Advisory Services team. You will bring your professional, volunteer, and lived experiences focused on social good and influencing capital to our work to build inclusive economies. You will serve as a core contributor and support to the development and structuring of our pilot products and innovative initiatives, specifically around impact investment capital that has the potential to transform the field. You will operationalize our ongoing management and oversight of capital products, to ensure smooth execution and continuous learning and improvement, as well as play a lead role in cross-team collaboration to identify new and impactful potential ways to move capital equitably. You have high emotional intelligence, prioritize equity over equality, and are creative. You are a team player, have incredible attention to detail, and believe capital should be a force for good. You’re here to build, whether the blueprint exists or not. Current responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Bolster Capital Product and Initiative Ideation to Implementation (40%)

Map out and project manage the overall design and launch of inclusive impact investment products that center BIPOC communities and ecosystems in close collaboration with the Director of Capital Strategies. Generate and sort ideas for new products,  initiatives, and partnerships that support more equitable or investee-centric capital flows and historically marginalized stakeholders. Offer original insights from past experience and available data, as it relates to capital innovations, as well as help screen inbound opportunities for their viability and impact potential. Support other bodies of work related to the equitable allocation of capital, such as Advisory Services and Funder Learning, with similar ideation-to-implementation contributions and project management.  Communicate with both external and internal stakeholders clearly, concisely, and inclusively.

Monitor and Evaluate Implementation of Capital Product/Initiatives (35%)

Project manage the implementation of capital products and initiatives. Remain responsive as new information develops and make recommendations for pivots or changes that increase their overall impact.  Work with the Knowledge Management team and Capital Strategies Associate to observe, analyze and synthesize the successes and failures of capital products and initiatives post-launch, to ensure continuous learning and iteration of processes and offerings. Track ongoing project costs over time to ensure administrative efficiencies.

Research and Coordinate for Capital Strategies/Advisory Services (25%)

Drive cross-team collaboration at CF, as it relates to exploring new capital products or initiatives. For example, working with the Programs team and the Network to identify viable opportunities for capital intermediation.  Research and stay abreast of trends and initiatives in the “capital for good” sector, with the goal of supporting Advisory Services and other CF initiatives.
Support overall administration of the Capital Strategies team, such as dissemination of agendas, overseeing meeting logistics, tracking deliverables, and other tasks as needed.
