About USA Swimming Foundation: The USA Swimming Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of USA Swimming. Established in 2004, the Foundation works to strengthen the sport by saving lives and building champions. Whether equipping children or adults with the life-saving skill of learn-to-swim or providing financial support to our member clubs and heroes on the U.S. National Team, the USA Swimming Foundation aims to strengthen the sport of swimming by providing the experience of swimming to individuals at all levels across the country.    Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will be responsible to raise funds from individual donors at the major gifts level ($50,000+) in support of the organization’s vision and revenue needs. The MGO will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 100 to 125 major-level and planned giving donors across a national footprint. The MGO will also contribute to other strategic fundraising initiatives including the annual fundraising plan, sponsorships, and events.     Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Solicit donations from major donor prospects at the $50,000 level and above.
  • Research donor prospects for their affinity to the Foundation and its mission, and assess their capacity for giving; set relationship priorities to ensure efficiency in fundraising investments.
  • Serve as solicitor and steward of major donors by developing strong relationships, and cultivating continued interests to the mission and financial needs of the Foundation.
  • Maintain thorough records of interactions with donors and their contributions in the donor database (Salesforce).
  • Regularly provide reports to leadership on visits, relationships, activities, results, and other key performance metrics compared to goals.
  • Support consistent Foundation messaging through all channels to engage current and potential donors, inviting them to support the vision, priorities, and work of the Foundation.
  • Support fundraising events including Olympic Trials VIP donor packages, Golden Goggle Awards, donor cultivation events, etc. that engage and cultivate donor support for the vision and impact of the Foundation and provide the opportunity for donors to experience the work of the Foundation firsthand.
  • Support planned giving opportunities helping to grow the Foundation’s endowment.
  • Responsible for organizing and selling Olympic Trial VIP Packages prior to and during Olympic years.  
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the annual fundraising plan, including individual gifts, endowment and planned gifts, the Trustees Council, special events, corporate solicitations, and donor stewardship.
  • As a team member and representative of the organization, actively contribute to the improvement of operations of the Foundation.
  • Collaborate effectively with coworkers in a transparent and supportive fashion, enhancing the Foundation team’s overall performance. 
  • Required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 upon hire
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, non-profit administration, marketing, or related field, or equivalent
  • Minimum three years of fundraising experience including at least one year of successful, face-to-face, major gift experience 
  • Willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar donor database preferred
  • Ability to travel 25% of the year
  • A proven track record in building strong donor relationships 
  • An awareness of, affiliation with, and a passion for the Olympic movement, Olympic Community, and elite athletes, as well as a passion for swimming and learn to swim programs desirable
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to share the vision of Foundation through story and informational formats
  • Experience in fundraising analytics, specifically understanding how to use data analysis to identify donor prospects and their capacity and interest to give
  • Experience utilizing structured major donor prospecting approaches, cultivation and stewardship disciplines, and personal performance-based measurement for fundraising success 
  • Strong, active listening skills with dynamic presentation abilities.
  • Ability to contribute at the strategic level by thinking quickly and creatively
  • Ability to act with a high degree of integrity, maintain flexibility, and emotionally resilient
  • Ability to work independently and interact well with all levels of donors, the Board of Directors, and the Foundation staff 
Salary & Benefits:
  • Salary range for this position is $58,000 - $68,000 / year
