Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Gift Planning reports to the Director of Gift Planning and Strategic Initiatives and will support a wide range of both new and established activities and programs focused on qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals who provide for Vassar's future through deferred gifts and estate commitments. Planned gifts are a significant part of Vassar's exciting and ambitious comprehensive campaign and this role will interface in a personalized and conscientious manner with all levels of external and internal constituents, including alumnae/i, parents, friends, major donors, leadership and principal gift officers, AVP, VP, Board of Trustees and President's Office.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the content and production of all gift planning marketing materials provided by a marketing supplier.
  • Oversee the content, including securing diverse donor profile images and quotes, for the gift planning website produced by the marketing supplier.
  • Assist the Director in the production of special targeted solicitation and stewardship materials including greeting cards, thank-you letters, broadcast emails, postcards and letters.
  • Prepare timely and professional responses to requests for gift planning information with meticulous, thoughtful, and appropriate correspondence and maintain internal record-keeping as defined by office protocols.
  • Generate professional planned gift proposals using PG Calc® software program and other tools to increase professionalism and sophistication of gift planning proposals, including accurate financial calculations and creative and compelling gift options.
  • Track the performance and response rate of marketing campaigns.
  • Develop comprehension in, or continued knowledge of, various gift planning instruments, including staying informed about changes in tax regulation, industry trends, and economic indicators. Proactively share information with colleagues and assist in solving specific technical questions as they arise.
  • Work with the Director and other members of the Office to identify major planned gift prospects and collaborate on cultivation strategies in partnership with Leadership Gift Officers and track accordingly in department database.
  • Work with the Director and other members of the Office to develop new stewardship strategies for existing planned gift donors and track accordingly in department CRM database.
  • Supervise the planning and execution of special stewardship events, including an annual campus reception for 80-100 legacy society members during reunion weekend.
  • Prepare accurate reports of gift planning activity using office CRM database and Excel.
  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends throughout the year. (Reunion, various campus events).
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Vassar College, its history, people, programs, and initiatives.


Qualifications
  • Associates degree (or higher) preferred.
  • Have demonstrated success in fundraising, financial services, and/or marketing/sales, with a focus on project management. Experience with, or comprehension of, IRS policies and procedures and/or financial investment instruments is preferred.
  • Experience within and beyond higher education who embrace Vassar’s mission and its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and who wish to have a real impact on advancing the College at this pivotal time. High-level proficiency with Google suite and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with PG Calc® software preferred, but training is available.
  • Strong writing and editing skills required.
  • Highly-organized, with an attention to detail and have the ability to apply independent judgment with limited supervision and instruction while maintaining flexibility.
  • Possess the ability to articulate, a commitment to liberal arts education and relate and communicate comfortably with people of diverse ages, profiles, interests, and backgrounds.
