Organization Overview

Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational network of grantmakers committed to strengthening Latino communities across the Americas. HIP connects and convenes funders, nonprofits, researchers, and other leaders to identify emerging needs among Latinos as well as best practices for responsive and effective funding of social change. HIP pioneers new philanthropic models by leading collaborative initiatives and has provided grants and training to help build the capacity of more than 800 organizations and leaders. 

 

Position Summary The Director of Development will lead HIP’s fundraising team, focused on: growing and managing relationships with foundations, corporations, high-net worth individuals, and other donor constituency groups; designing and overseeing all fundraising strategies and processes; developing new tactics to prospect, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors who support our core operating functions, programmatic initiatives, and regranting efforts; and serving as internal champion and external ambassador for HIP’s mission, values, and theory of change. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled fundraiser to support our work around migration, gender equity, civic engagement, Latinx leadership, Latinx entrepreneurship, racial justice, power-building, and more. 

 

The Director of Development will report to the CEO and will supervise two senior development associates and a part-time coordinator. The Director will share funder relationships with the CEO and some program staff.

 

Core Responsibilities
    Lead all aspects of fundraising for the organization in both the U.S. and Latin America Develop and implement a fundraising plan that accurately meets HIP’s funding needs and grows a strong donor pipeline Maintain and grow strong partnerships in the foundation world, while building new strategies and results with corporate funders and individual donors, specifically:
      Create and lead a new individual donor strategy and pipeline to successfully secure new major gifts from high-net-worth donors Design and execute a first-time Corporate Fundraising strategy to increase HIP support and engagement with companies and industry leaders
    Provide writing and editing support for development and program teams to ensure case statements and narratives are strong, clear, and compelling Work with the Executive Team, Board, and outside consultant(s) to launch a successful Anniversary Campaign in honor of HIP’s 40th Anniversary in 2023 Ensure coordination of funder outreach across teams to optimize fundraising including grants, membership, and online giving Lead solicitation for HIP’s Annual Conference and other special events as needed, in collaboration with the conference team. Serve as point of contact for sponsors and ensure delivery of sponsor benefits Keep Board, leadership, and staff apprised of fundraising efforts and successes; liaise with the finance team to ensure that fundraising is being measured and tracked Partner with the communications team to develop collateral for current and prospective donors, members, and sponsors Ensure donor data/information systems are current and well-functioning

 

Qualifications
    10+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, and grants management  A commitment to Hispanics in Philanthropy’s vision and mission Demonstrated management skills and experience Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, and ability to consistently meet deadlines Facility and experience optimizing Salesforce for good prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Strategic and visionary thinker, with solid judgment and demonstrated integrity Ability to manage high-pressure situations and respond to the unexpected Ability to lead and inspire, nurturing a culture of philanthropy and bringing people into our cause Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers in joint efforts Ability to work remotely with virtual teams across the U.S. and in Mexico City

 

Desired Skills 
    Fluent in English and Spanish Familiarity with intermediary philanthropy and the role of philanthropy support organizations Social finance background and/or demonstrated understanding of the impact investment sector Experience in nonprofit management Deep experience with Salesforce or a similar CRM database, and Google Suite 

 

Compensation  Commensurate with experience, with possibility for growth based on performance results.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Daily use of computer and phone for regular communications with staff and team members. This position may be a remote position or based out of the Oakland office. Some travel will be required. Employees are required to comply with health and safety measures consistent with CDC guidelines, and federal, state, and local regulations.
