Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, The Senior Director of Development (SDD) works directly with the CEO to sustain and grow OBT’s fundraising program.   The SDD will foster relationships with key funding organizations and influential/philanthropic individuals to create enduring partnerships with OBT. This individual will be held accountable for cycling those relationships within OBT toward new sponsorships, grants and individual philanthropic gifts to the organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with CEO, develop and execute fiscal year fundraising plan, to include donor acquisition, prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to increase revenues in support of OBT and its mission
  • Create annual giving programs to support all OBT’s revenue streams:
    • Major Gifts: Individual, Corporate Sponsorships, and Foundation Giving
    • Mid-level: Moving small gifts to larger gifts (i.e. monthly donor program); and
    • Broad-based support: Direct Mail, Online Giving, and fundraising campaigns through Social Media
  • Oversee Development Department to ensure management of OBT’s fundraising/donor portfolios and prospects including qualifying, researching, cultivating and soliciting gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations. 
  • Formulate/maintain VIP cultivation, communications, solicitations, and follow up strategies, to include OBT’s Board of Directors and other key legislators and public leaders.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to maximize their personal and professional fundraising contributions.
    • Support the CEO and Board of Directors in any development and fundraising activities and donor follow up.
  • Develop financial ask projections and dates by prospect, implementing external fundraising and wealth prospecting systems.
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure plans and critical fund-raising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Identify grant opportunities and coordinate with other members of OBT’s team to draft the grant application.
  • Responsible for planning, directing, and implementing activities and programs to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and corporate, foundation, steward major and planned gifts from individual donors and prospects at the five-figure level and above. 
  • Serve as primary liaison with the CEO, Board of Directors, department managers and other key stakeholders to identify fundraising opportunities, initiatives, and strategies.
  • Prepare professional presentations and funding proposals for donors as required.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in developing and implementing strategies to solicit gifts and endowments to fund the mission of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as related to donor development.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree with a concentration in either public relations, journalism, communications, English, or business is required. A Master's degree is preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years of fundraising experience, preferably in workforce development, with demonstrated track record to successfully solicit five and six figure gifts.
  • Experience working with board members and internal leadership in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects.
  • Experience in developing yearly fundraising strategy
  • Strong interpersonal, management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with a fundraising database.
  • Previous experience managing programs for federal and/or state initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with prior experience in creating and delivering public presentations.
  • Highly motivated, able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
  • Highly collaborative working style with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently and entrepreneurially.
  • Ability to create and implement new initiatives.
  • Strong commitment to the agency’s mission, purpose, and values.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.
