NCFL’s Associate Director of Development will lead all
fundraising efforts to support the organization’s ~$9,000,000
annual budget in partnership with the Director of External Affairs.
This includes both identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new
NCFL prospects and stewarding the organization’s existing and/or
recurring donors. NCFL’s primary donor base includes foundations,
corporations, government grants, and contracts. This position will
be expected to work closely and collaboratively with four External
Affairs colleagues that comprise NCFL’s communications, conference,
and creative teams to tell the organization’s story in meaningful
and compelling ways. This position has the flexibility to be
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the identification, qualification, engagement,
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective NCFL
donors, both new and existing. Works with existing donors based
both in NCFL’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, as well as with
regional and national donors.
- Provides logistical planning for donor presentations (both
digital and in-person, when deemed safe).
- Provides strategic guidance on how to increase NCFL’s
visibility with donors through specific events, presentations,
- Manages grant application timelines and works with the Director
of External Affairs and the appropriate education team members to
identify, craft, and submit compelling proposals.
- Collaborates with the Director, External Affairs and the
Director, Federal Grants on federal funding opportunities and
- Leads writing for grant proposals, working closely with the
appropriate education team members to develop applications as well
as grant budgets.
- Maintains a list of regularly occurring grant proposals and
works with the External Affairs Coordinator on prospect research
requests and findings.
- Keeps apprised of new research, data, and policy information to
inform all grant writing and fundraising activities.
- Creates a system of acknowledgement and recognition of NCFL’s
individual and recurring donor base, including creating quarterly
digital messages and updates. Collaborates with the Associate
Director, Communications and the Community Manager to strategically
- Provides as needed support to the Director of External Affairs
on board updates and major gift cultivation.
- Manages the end-of-year giving appeal and accompanying

Cause-based Marketing and New Opportunities
- Collaborates with the Director, External Affairs as well as the
appropriate education team members on developing and pursuing
cause-based marketing opportunities.
- Proactively explores new funding stream opportunities and
- Lead for sponsorship acquisition. Work with the Director of
External Affairs and the Associate Director of Communications to
meet sponsorship expectations.
- Conference planning support as needed.
- Uses Salesforce for donor and prospect communications,
tracking, and cultivation planning.
- Supports the ongoing enhancement of Salesforce functionality to
support NCFL’s overall development records.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion when working with
budget figures and donor information.

- Bachelor's Degree
- Demonstrated knowledge of the fundraising cycle.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience with solicitations of $20,000 and more
- Knowledge of current issues surrounding education in the United
States is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience working within a field that
required persuasive writing, fundraising, marketing or

- Valid Driver's License

Physical and Work Environment:
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs
- Ability to travel when deemed safe to do so approximately 25%
of the time, including occasional nights and weekends.
Salary Range - $60,000-65,000
