Responsibilities
Directs the accounting operations of the Foundation, Alumni Association and Real Estate Foundation. Responsible for supervising daily actions related to general accounting, scholarships and funds management as well as providing oversight to the Assistant Controller concerning revenue, disbursement and investment activities. Supervises 3 direct managers as well as 12 indirect reports. Participates in planning, staffing decisions and establishing or modifying internal polices.

Oversees the preparation of the Foundation's quarterly and annual financial statements as well as the monthly financial reports and annual financial statements for the Alumni Association and Real Estate Foundation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Acts as liaison with external auditors for annual financial audits and with internal auditors on other matters when necessary. Reviews the preparation of the federal and state tax returns for the Foundation, Alumni Association and Real Estate Foundation. Provides accounting expertise for transaction processing and internal control.

Directs the annual budget process alongside the CFO and provides training to cost center managers for the Foundation, Alumni Association and Real Estate Foundation. Compiles overall operating budgets and prepares required reporting for the University. Prepares the quarterly budget variance reports for the Foundation and consults with staff on the reports for the Alumni Association and Real Estate Foundation.

Coordinates with the Foundation information technology, data management and gift services departments to ensure the integrity of data in the financial and gift systems. Assists in the development of data warehouse reports used by Foundation, Alumni Association and University personnel. Creates processes and procedures to accommodate financial tracking of new fundraising initiatives and coordinates activities with other direct support organizations.

Communicates with Foundation, Alumni Association, Real Estate Foundation and University personnel on accounting and financial reporting matters. Provides staff support for the Foundation Board of Trustees Audit and Finance Committees, the Alumni Association Board of Directors Audit Committee as well as the Real Estate Foundation Board of Directors Audit Committee. Consults with the University or other direct support organizations on the use of shared financial accounting or other software.

Performs special projects. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and applicable federal and state laws. Assists in providing oversight in the absences of the CFO.

Qualifications
Master's degree in accounting or related field and four years of experience related to the duties of the job or Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and six years of experience related to the duties of the job.
Ability to adhere to ethical business practices and promote ethical behavior.
Ability to apply the principle and practices of strategic planning, development and evaluation.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop change or alternatives.
Ability to gather, interpret, report, and/or edit information.
Ability to train and supervise employees.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
