The Job
Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Leadership Gifts Officer (LGO) will work closely with the entire Strategic Advancement team at The Opportunity Network (OppNet) as well as the CEO, OppNet’s Board and staff to support a growing leadership giving program at OppNet by building strategic relationships and partnerships with individual donors and prospects. As a key member of the Strategic Advancement department, the Leadership Giving Officer will execute year-round identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts as a key driver of new revenue for a fast-growing $10.3M organization whose bold growth plans ahead will require ambitious revenue growth.

This new position will build and drive a dynamic portfolio of approximately 100-150 leadership giving prospects and donors. The LGO will spend a majority of their time in direct interaction with prospects and donors, helping donors fulfill their passions and interests through their giving to OppNet. In service of this goal, the LGO will strategically partner with OppNet staff and Board leadership to expand OppNet’s network through Board introductions and build strong donor relationships with OppNet. Additionally, in close concert with the Head of Leadership Giving, this position will help manage and support 3Circles--OppNet’s newly launched leadership giving community (10k+). The LGO will help grow this revenue stream by building membership across their portfolio as well as engaging with members of the 3Circles Committee and OppNet’s Board. The LGO will be supported by and collaborate across OppNet’s Development team, as well as, Communications and Programs.

This year, OppNet will reach more than 10,000 students of color across the nation to support them in achieving their college and career goals.

  • OppNet’s founding Fellows program works with 1,000+ students over the course of six years, from 11th grade through to college graduation, to provide college guidance, five summers of paid internships, career exposure and skills-training, and support in growing personal and professional networks.

  • UninterruptedED, launched in 2020, is OppNet’s free, open-access learning portal for students and educators offering flexible courses spanning our proprietary Career Fluency® curriculum.

The Person
The ideal candidate will personally connect to the important work we do and value diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) across the organization. The candidate will demonstrate DE&I values by actively participating in all organizational-wide learning sessions and self-reflection as well as working with others to enact changes that contribute to meeting the organization’s DE&I goals.

The candidate should possess outstanding professionalism and discretion, organization and attention to detail, energy and initiative, the ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks on time, and a willingness to work on a wide range of assignments. The ideal candidate is also someone who is excited by the idea of building an ambitious new revenue generation program in service of OppNet’s long-term sustainability and someone who values the art and science of building meaningful relationships.

Responsibilities
Portfolio Management (~65%)

  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 donors and prospects capable of making leadership gifts to OppNet, between $10,000-100,000
  • Create and implement robust prospecting, discovery, cultivation, and stewardship efforts that will lead to improved donor retention, upgrades, acquisition, and growth across various revenue streams
  • Directly solicit leadership gifts and also partner with OppNet staff, Board, and leadership on donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship opportunities, including preparation of appropriate, concise briefing materials in advance of meetings with donors and prospects
  • Collaborate across the organization and with Board leadership to maximize opportunities with current donors and prospects and also source and qualify new prospects across OppNet’s network

3Circles Community (~25%)

  • Amplify 3Circles across portfolio as means to grow revenue stream and increase membership
  • In close concert with the Head of Leadership Giving, help create, lead, and implement strategy for 3Circles Community donor engagement, Committee management, and revenue growth
  • Alongside the Head of Leadership Giving, build meaningful relationships with 3Circles Committee members to help support their own goals to introduce their networks to OppNet and 3Circles
  • Provide operational leadership to collaboratively manage and grow 3Circles, including event strategy and support, stewardship and recognition, marketing and collateral for donors and prospects, etc.
  • Support the activation and training of Committee and Board members as well as other engaged supporters who can provide critical leadership in expanding this donor community

Coordination and Operations (~10%)

  • Collaborate closely with the team and OppNet leadership to coordinate information sharing, layer relationship-building touchpoints, and to strategically advance individuals across portfolios based on their overall fit and interest
  • Create and present compelling proposals for consideration according to prospect's interests and financial capacity and ensure donors receive timely and accurate reports on the impact of their giving
  • Develop and execute creative and special cultivation and stewardship opportunities, such as a dinner series or small events for select donors/prospects
  • Engage in research and utilize existing information to effectively build, qualify, and maximize portfolio
  • Adhere to a consistent information sharing system that ensures timely entering of all appropriate information into institutional donor information management system (CRM)
  • Monitor and analyze results of outreach and solicitations to determine effectiveness and opportunities for improvement
  • Working with the support of the Development team, ensure appropriate donor acknowledgment, stewardship, and recognition
  • Track and maintain giving projections to ensure financial goals are met

Beyond the responsibilities outlined above, it is expected that the Leadership Giving Officer meaningfully participate in OppNet’s DE&I working groups and other projects to help advance OppNet’s organization-wide commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that she/he/they develop their own role- and person-specific intentions as she/he/they relate to OppNet’s DE&I commitment.

Qualifications

  • Passion and commitment to OppNet’s organizational mission, vision, and core values as well as its imperative to become a more equitable, anti-racist and anti-oppressive organization
  • 10 - 15 years of successful experience in individual fundraising in nonprofit setting with progressive responsibility and proven track-record of qualifying and building a robust pipeline of major gift prospects and reaching revenue goals through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Strong interpersonal skills, guided by natural inclination toward building meaningful relationships
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to inform, inspire and connect prospects and donors to OppNet’s work and impact
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal partnerships and work in a collaborative environment toward common objectives
  • Sound judgment skills necessary for interacting with donor prospects, Board, students, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, comfortable with ambiguity, and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to develop long-term plans, set objectives, and track progress towards achieving objectives.
  • Operates with attention to detail and models a high level of integrity that ensures confidentiality and discretion
  • Demonstrated record of completing projects and follow-through on strategic priorities
  • Highly motivated self-starter; able and willing to take initiative and action
  • Experience with donor database management and systems to track campaigns and ensure complete, secure and private donor and campaign records
  • Willingness to travel and work some weekends
  • Flexibility and a motivation to take on new tasks as the responsibilities of the position evolve
