Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving

Position Summary

A key member of the Fordham Law School Advancement team, the Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the active management of the Law School’s annual giving program, with emphasis on the direct mail, e-solicitation, and phonathon programs. Additionally, this position will play a lead role in the creation and management of the Law School’s annual Giving Day fundraising effort, as well as one-off mini fundraising campaigns as they arise. The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Senior Director of Development Operations for the Law School, and works closely with all members of the Law School’s ACDC team as well as the University’s development department, building strategic relationships with cross-functional teams and promoting collaboration across departments.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Works closely with the Senior Director of Development Operations to develop multi-year and multi-channel annual giving strategies with a focus on direct mail solicitations, phonathons, and e-solicitations.
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive outreach calendar that tracks all annual giving outreach activity.
  • In collaboration the Communications staff, develops creative and effective appeal letters, brochures and website fundraising copy to drive annual giving growth and philanthropic support.
  • Analyzes giving trends and uses data to implement effective segmentation plans with a goal of increasing awareness, affinity, and engagement rates among Fordham Law alumni and friends. 
  • Plays lead role in Fordham Law Giving Day, coordinating with cross-functional teams (Communications, Alumni Relations, Fordham Fund, etc.) to develop goals, strategy, schedule and marketing materials.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Development Operations in the management of special one-off mini campaigns.
  • Supports the Law School’s Gift Officers in the engagement and solicitation of their prospects. Provides accurate reporting on gift officer’s prospects, especially around calendar year and fiscal year end, in order to increase donor retention and reactivation metrics.
  • In conjunction with Senior Director of Development Operations, produces bi-annual pledge reminders.
  • Works with external vendors to ensure communications meet printing deadlines and are produced within budget.
  • Actively manages printing and postage budget lines.
  • Manages the Law School fundraising web pages (Jadu and iMods). Creates appeal codes and friendly URLs to track giving and special fundraising initiatives.
  • Works with DAUR Advancement Services to ensure accurate recording of gifts, appeals, and outreach efforts.

 

Additional Functions      

  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of the degree, a minimum of four years of related experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively successful experience in fundraising and development.
  • Demonstrated keen understanding of annual giving strategies, constituencies, methods, metrics, and best practices preferably in a higher education setting; knowledge and experience with direct mail, telemarketing, e-campaign solicitation strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with the intended audience.
  • Curiosity and analytical thinking; complex problem solving; ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail; meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to foster strong collaborative relationships at all levels of a complex organization and professionally interacts with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and outside groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; an ability and willingness to quickly learn both the Law School’s and University’s history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, and departments, as well as University culture.
  • Comfort with using personal computers, tablets, and software programs for retrieving, organizing, researching, and presenting appropriate donor/prospect information.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Experience with Ellucian Advance
