Position Summary – Associate Director, Patient Engagement

History

Founded in 2015 by Drs. Daniel F. Kelly (neurosurgeon), Chester F. Griffiths (otolaryngologist – ENT), Howard R. Krauss (neuro-ophthalmologist) and Santosh Kesari (neuro-oncologist), Pacific Neuroscience Institute (PNI) ® provides precision leading-edge care for patients with a wide spectrum of neurological and cranial disorders including:

·        Benign and malignant brain and skull base tumors

·        Pituitary tumors and related hormonal disorders

·        Stroke and other neurovascular diseases

·        Adult hydrocephalus syndromes

·        Vision, hearing, swallowing and sinus disorders

·        Facial pain syndromes

·        Movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor

·        Cognitive and mood disorders including all types of dementia, depression, anxiety and addiction disorders

·        Autoimmune syndromes such as multiple sclerosis

With 37 physicians and 12 medical and surgical subspecialties represented including neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-oncology, neuro-ophthalmology, neuro-psychology, psychiatry, endocrinology, ENT (otolaryngology), interventional neuroradiology, radiation oncology, neuro-anesthesia and neuropathology, the PNI team provides a truly collaborative and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment approach for each patient. PNI’s goal is to rapidly and accurately understand the patient’s condition and provide focused minimally invasive and maximally effective care to help restore quality of life.  PNI Medical Group is based at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance.

Through support by the PNI Foundation and Saint John’s Health Center Foundation, and in collaboration with the Saint John’s Cancer Institute, PNI is striving to change the standard of care for patients with neuroscience conditions and advance brain health and wellness through translational research and clinical trials, provide fellowship training, as well as offer neuroscience education to patients and the community.

Mission

Pacific Neuroscience Institute is devoted to i) providing personalized, precision multidisciplinary patient care, ii) advancing the neurosciences and promoting brain health through novel research and innovative clinical trials, iii) training the next generation of clinician and research neuroscientists, and iv) educating patients and the community at large on vital neuroscience issues.

 

About PNI Foundation

The PNI Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose purpose is to facilitate the research, teaching and education mission of PNI ™ and its faculty. It serves as the primary conduit to providing education and awareness of the research and services of the PNIMG faculty, as well as fundraising from a variety of sources – philanthropy, corporate support, industry, and federal and non-federal grants. The PNI Foundation team works collaboratively with SJHC Foundation, who fundraises from individuals and foundations on PNI Foundation’s behalf. PNI Foundation support extends across multiple areas of need at PNI, including fueling innovative, translational and clinical research projects, clinical trials support, peer-reviewed publications, database infrastructure, neuroanatomical skills laboratory, fellowship training, faculty recruitment, patient education and community outreach.

 

Position Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of the PNI Foundation, the Associate Director, Patient Engagement will develop, manage and lead efforts in provider and grateful patient engagement, prospect identification and referrals to the major gifts team at SJHC Foundation. In addition, the Associate Director will function as a member of the Marketing and Communications team by evaluating and providing valuable insight on the patient experience.

 

Experience/Qualifications:

·   Bachelor’s degree or higher required

·   Minimum of five (5) years fundraising experience

·   Demonstrated success, thorough knowledge, and understanding of healthcare fundraising

·   Excellent verbal and written communication skills; customer relations skills

·   Establish and maintain a high level of knowledge of PNI’s programs and medical specialties and service lines

·  Utilize predictive models to Initiate contacts with grateful patients with an entrepreneurial mindset and approach.

·   Knowledge of community

·   Excellent computer skills; experience with database management software

·  Ability to work independently, under pressure and use independent judgment in a well-organized manner

·   Ability to work well with physicians and other providers

·   Ability to effectively engage, inspire and motivate others

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Functions:

45%

Assist with PNI/SJHCF fundraising efforts in reaching its pre-qualification goals:

·        Strategic implementation and oversight of Grateful Patient and Call Scheduling Program for PNI.

·        Utilize Prysm software to manage physician and patient engagement for PNI.

·        Utilize Prysm to determine best opportunities for provider partnership, contact patients and report outcomes.

·        Utilize using Prysm with TalkDesk to schedule qualification visits between fundraiser and potentially grateful patients.

·        Work with SJHCF fundraising team to onboard priority clinical departments and physicians as part of the Grateful Patient Program.

·        Work with development officers to identify and qualify new major gift prospects utilizing Prysm.

·        Build and maintain relationships with PNI physicians, advanced practice providers and staff.

·        Meet with physicians to identify clinical/research initiatives and funding priorities to better communicate with grateful patients through in person meetings.

·        Prepare meeting agendas, prepare and send patient Introductory Letters, call patients, and record and analyze qualification activity outcomes.

·        Responsible for developing and maintaining a patient qualification portfolio of prospective patient donors.

·        Meet with patients to determine major gift qualification.

Lead the Patient Engagement efforts in assessing opportunities to improve patient experience and satisfaction at PNI

·        Develop patient experience/engagement program to include annual patient satisfaction surveys, patient calls (utilizing Prysm’s Talk Desk) post 30 days, and system for documenting and recommending suggestions for improvement on clinic-related experiences.

·        Develop recognition program for PNI physicians who are making a difference in the patient experience.

 

20%

Manage programmatic aspects of PNI fundraising and marketing:

  • Oversee all aspects of executing a grateful patient fundraising and engagement plan for PNI, working in partnership with the Vice President and the SJHCF development team.
  • Responsible for programmatic oversight and ensuring a positive working relationship between SJHCF leadership and staff.
  • Responsible for meeting established programmatic performance goals.
  • Identify potential patients to who want to be featured as grateful patient stories in PNI publications, social media posts, or website.

 

5%

Serve as a role model for the PNI. Includes:

  • Act as spokesperson for PNI activities as requested.
  • Participate in search committees, task forces and other special projects.
  • Demonstrate an ability to solve problems, overcome hurdles, and navigate sensitive issues with discretion, tact and strong communication skills.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with PNI faculty and staff to support fundraising initiatives for PNI priorities.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of key fundraising priorities for PNI.
