The Executive Director of Development (EDOD), Health Advancement for Gavin Herbert Eye Institute (GHEI) and Stem Research Center is a senior-level development professional who manages a large and complex fundraising program with complex constituencies and programs through a large professional staff, including both fundraising and non-fundraising professionals and related administrative support staff. The EDOD works collaboratively with physicians to secure significant philanthropic investments to support their respective programs. The EDOD is responsible for managing a personal portfolio of high-capacity donors and the incumbent's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet individual and group metrics for the team under management. The EDOD will serve as a member of the Health Advancement leadership team and is also expected to be a highly collaborative colleague within University Advancement.

Required:
At least ten years of successful professional development and/or fundraising related experience, preferably in an academic healthcare institution • Experience-based knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising for comprehensive research university, including the ability to direct a complex development program • Proven track record of success in principal gift fundraising at a complex, higher education research or academic healthcare institution • Experienced in operating under a prospect moves-management system that utilizes a central database • Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that leverage a relationship-building and moves-management approach leading to successful gift closure • Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments • Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments • Experience in campaign planning is desired.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures. Advanced knowledge of design and implementation of identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques. Advanced skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs. Advanced knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, etc. Advanced knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives and issues of concern both on campus and / or medical center as well as in higher education, research and medical care or clinical operations. Advanced leadership / management skills, including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff. Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies. Advanced skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including securing gifts and meeting fundraising objectives. Advanced political acumen skills. Advanced strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical and persuasion / negotiation skills. Advanced marketing skills. Strong collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone Collaborative in nature knowing that many donors' interests involve multiple parts of the university. Ability to work independently with both School and institutional goals in mind Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible Ability to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies. Strong people management skills to effectively recruit, engage, manage and develop a professional development team. Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials. Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans.

Preferred:

Advanced degree preferred.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce or comparable a donor/prospect database system.

Special Conditions Required:

May work long hours to meet fundraising commitments.• Local, regional, and national travel is required. • Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
