POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Development and Special Events is an integral member of the Development Office’s WFUV team. This individual helps to carry out WFUV’s fundraising strategies and activities, as defined by WFUV’s General Manager, Advisory Board, and Senior Director of Development. His/her ideas on all projects are considered and valued. This position reports to the Senior Director of Development, WFUV and is responsible for designing and executing cost-effective special events.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Plans and executes the station’s annual On the Record and WFUV High Line Bash fundraisers, the Holiday Cheer VIP Party, two to three cultivation events per year, aimed at recruiting new Marquee members and recruiting new Advisory Board members.
  • Organizes an annual stewardship event for Advisory Board members; designs one cultivation event and one stewardship event, aimed at Corporate Underwriting prospects; creates one event focused on Irish music programming per year.
  • Plans ad hoc celebrations, such as anniversary shows; introduces one stewardship event for the bequest society; and shapes events aimed at engaging news and sports program alumni.
  • Develops plans, timelines, pre-sale letters, volunteer structure, and briefing memos associated with each event.
  • Identifies and cultivates potential event donors, generates written proposals for such donors, and staff all leadership volunteers.
  • Secures cash and in-kind sponsorships, ensuring that revenue’s bottom line is robust. Generates at least $300,000 in event support, given these relationships.
  • Builds and monitors cost and revenue event budgets.
  • Works with WFUV’s Development Associate to ensure all sponsorship benefits are fulfilled.
  • Partners with WFUV and Fordham marketing teams on generating Save the Dates, invitations, and event programs.
  • Collaborates with Station staff, the Fordham Special Events team, outside vendors and the WFUV Advisory Board.
  • Supports and staffs multiple cultivation and fundraising events, including the preparation of mailing lists and brief research profiles.
  • Participates in WFUV’s membership drives and attend monthly all-staff meetings.

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm, project management, multi-tasking, creativity, organizational ability, attention to detail, and focus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend events, held by both WFUV and Fordham, and to travel locally.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in special events and/or development at non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the use of new software.
  • Familiarity with computerized development databases.
