Description

 

The Director of Stewardship oversees the overall strategy for fund reporting, utilization, and stewardship initiatives that actively promotes the Division's priorities and goals. Responsible for designing, implementing and coordinating an institution-wide comprehensive stewardship system that appropriately and consistently promotes interactions with and recognition of donors at all levels. Collaborates with senior leaders and key stakeholders to ensure effectiveness and streamlined functions. Provides strategic direction for projects designed to enhance the donor giving experience.The University of Houston's Donor Engagement program seeks to appreciate, inform, meaningfully engage and recognize current and prospective donors in the life of the University of Houston. The University recognizes its fiduciary responsibility to care for the investments that have been made and entrusted to the institution. Consistent contacts and programs for donors and prospective constituents are critical and valuable components of the fundraising efforts and are focused on building lifelong relationships with donors, instilling in them pride for the institution, and trust that their gifts are being carefully and responsibly managed. The Donor Engagement program is organized into the following component areas: Donor Recognition and Events, Gift Impact and Compliance, and Development Communications. This team is a part of the Division of University Advancements Strategic Initiatives department, which encompasses strategic planning and projects, campaign initiatives and planning, donor and volunteer engagement.Innovative Programming:

  1. Assists with the creation, implementation, and management of a strategic plan for fund stewardship and reporting in alignment with the University's bold strategic plan.
  2. Creates, manages, and continually improves stewardship programs that relay impact, educate donors, and instill donor confidence in UH including, but not limited to tax receipt/pledge processes, fund utilization monitoring, compliance, and fund reporting.
  3. Establishes a structured, systematic and streamlined program for system-wide endowment reporting to assure perpetual and mutually beneficial relationships with donors.
  4. Creates easy to use and technology-based templates to track spending and impact of endowed funds.
  5. Provides and presents statistical analysis to Leadership Team members in relation to Donor Engagement programs, donors served, and the impacts made.Monitoring Fund Utilization, Compliance and Donor Intent:
  6. Works closely with Advancement and Donor Engagement staff to report on the use of gifts, communicate gift impact and celebrate contributions.
  7. Develops consistent, accurate, and appropriate information-sharing mechanisms for tracking compliance initiatives and stewarding prospects and donors.
  8. Partners with schools, colleges and other campus units to ensure endowment income spending is timely and in accordance with the intent of the donor.
  9. Supports Division efforts to provide investment and performance information on endowed gifts; liaisons with staff members to ensure reporting is donor-centered and forwards overarching Advancement goals.
  10. Provides thorough, accurate, and timely responses to all endowment stakeholder information requests.
  11. In conjunction with Treasury, monitors spending balances of endowment accounts.Enhance the UH Donor Giving Experience:
  12. Enhances current processes and implements new technology for added efficiency, improved donor experience, and benefit to campus and system partners.
  13. Represents donors best interests by providing strategic input for process improvements through cross-team collaboration and workgroup participation.
  14. Designs and implements regular donor survey techniques as well as programmatic implementations based on survey responses. Leadership:
  15. Plans and coordinates complex administrative assignments and special projects within and/or across operating units.
  16. Serves as a content expert in Stewardship related matters for internal partners through leadership and representation in regular meetings and initiatives.
  17. Contributes to regular brainstorming on innovative, unique and personalized stewardship communications and experiences.
  18. Researches and communicates emerging trends and best practices in all areas of stewardship and seeks opportunities to share knowledge with both central and non-central Advancement staff members.
  19. Provides ongoing education for internal partners on best practices in stewardship and engagement.
  20. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

 Bachelors and 7 years experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
