The Search

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and experienced fundraising leader to serve as its next associate vice chancellor for advancement, health affairs, and build out a high-performing advancement operation.

The new associate vice chancellor (AVC) will lead the advancement efforts for UI Health, a $2.5 billion organization comprised of seven colleges, a major teaching hospital, a substantial community-based healthcare network, a wide variety of top-ranked primary and specialty clinics, and a cancer center. UI Health has an unswerving commitment to ensuring access to both education and health care in Chicago and beyond, serving as an incubator for life-saving research, a major healthcare provider to underserved communities, and educator of more physicians, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists for Illinois than any other school.

Reporting to the vice chancellor for advancement and working closely with the vice chancellor for health affairs, the AVC arrives at an interesting point in UIC and UI Health’s trajectory. UIC is on target to complete a $750 million campaign, IGNITE: The Campaign for UIC, in June 2022, and there is significant investment underway to expand clinical patient care facilities. However, despite generating roughly half of annual fundraising for UIC, the advancement operation for UI Health has lacked consistent leadership for some time, creating significant opportunities for transformational change. The new AVC will be a hands-on strategic partner for advancement and UI Health leadership alike, bringing entrepreneurial drive and ambition to establishing a best-in-class fundraising operation that supports the clinical, educational, and research ambitions of UI Health and UIC more broadly. Ultimately, the AVC will inspire a culture of philanthropy and collaboration across UI Health to grow its philanthropic revenue and generate transformational gifts that elevate the entire enterprise. The successful candidate will bring at least 10 years of experience in advancement with a clear track record of elevating fundraising programs and teams as well as personal fundraising success, ideally in an academic and/or clinical medical setting. This individual must be collaborative by nature, keen to engage individuals across a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines, and committed to the mission and goals of UIC and UI Health. Bachelor’s degree required.
