Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer
Organizational Mission: We believe that citizen engagement is essential to good environmental solutions. Therefore, our mission is to engage young people as active citizens who improve the environment and their communities now and in the future.
Our Vision: We see a future where 1 million young people participate in environmental policy making every year.
Organizational Overview: Earth Force is a national organization dedicated to expanding the engagement of young people in civic decision making to address environmental issues. Members of our team pride themselves on our commitment to that mission. Earth Force strives to create a workspace that is reflective, creative, responsive, and collaborative. Successful team members are those who set high standards for themselves, are comfortable with both giving and receiving feedback, and are willing to support other team members.
Position Description: Earth Force is looking for a fundraising professional with a passion for our work who is able to communicate that passion to potential donors. This is a new position added to coincide with the release of our new strategic vision. The cornerstone of our vision is to expand the reach of our programming from 15,000 young people a year to nearly 150,000 young people a year by 2026. Central to this growth effort is a new major donor strategy. The Development Director will play a key role in developing and implementing this strategy in partnership with the CEO. This position requires someone with a “start-up” mentality who is willing to build a donor program from the ground up. We recognize that creating this structure will not happen overnight and are willing to work with the right candidate to establish meaningful short, medium and long term goals that are consistent with starting a new development strategy.
Responsibilities: The Development Director reports to the CEO. This position requires both a “hands on” and strategic mindset. The Director will be responsible for:
-
Developing a major donor strategy
that will guide our resource growth over the next five years in
partnership with the CEO and board of directors.
Broadening our network to engage high
net worth individuals and family foundations.
Creating a pipeline of major donor
prospects and potential board members.
Communicating with prospects to
introduce Earth Force.
Working with the Chief Program
Officer to identify opportunities for prospective donors to engage
directly with Earth Force programming and facilitating those
experiences.
Arranging and facilitating
communication between the CEO, board members, and major donor
prospects.
Developing grant proposals and grant
reports for foundations and corporate donors.
Developing materials appropriate for
major donor prospects including “leave behind package” and online
messaging.
Contributing to the organization’s
social media strategy, quarterly impact reports, and an annual
report, in partnership with the Communications Manager.
Improving and managing fundraising
tracking capacity of the organization.
Ideal Candidate: The successful candidate will be committed to engaging new stakeholders. Additionally, success in this position will require a keen eye for detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the capacity to work with well established professionals.
Qualifications:
-
Passion: Demonstrable passion for
engaging young people in civic action or environmental
advocacy.
Track Record: A record of generating
organizational income directly from major donors (not events-based
fundraising).
Experience: Extensive familiarity
with all aspects of fundraising with a minimum of two years of
major donor work at either an environmental organization or within
a civic engagement organization.
Education: Bachelor's Degree with
additional fundraising certifications.
Communication: Excellent
communication skills with demonstrated capacity to make oral
presentations and capacity to write engaging copy for
materials.
Resilience: Demonstrable ability to
organize your own work, plan future work, and push through
challenges to achieve a desired outcome is required for this
position.
Virtual Environment: Earth Force is a
virtual organization and as such a successful candidate will
require experience working in virtual environments or a
demonstrated capacity to work virtually with access to a stable,
reliable internet connection.
Background Check: Required to pass a
background check.
Vaccination: Proof of vaccination for
the COVID-19 virus is required.
Transportation: Must provide
personal, insured transportation for reimbursed business use.
Overnight travel on occasion.
