The Director of Development’s primary role is to be the development arm of Trinity Academy, helping it achieve and advance its fundraising goals. This encompasses defining and implementing a development plan, including communications to promote the school in this endeavor. Responsibilities extend to maintaining current funding and seeking new sources of income from individuals, private foundations, events, and grants. In the execution of these duties, the Development Director would report to the Board of Directors Development Committee Chairperson.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, oversees and implements fundraising events under the direction of the Development Team of the Board of Trustees
- Takes the lead, working with Board’s Development Team, to create and implement the School’s annual development plan and implementation strategy
- Identifies prospective individual donors, private foundations, businesses, government funding prospects and grants. Works to develop the school’s Student Sponsorship program.
- Responsible for grant writing.
- Maintain and expand Donor Tools database, including donor financial records and audit trail on all donations.
- Prepare fundraising letters and appeals and maintains regular correspondence with foundations, donors, and trustees. Develops and oversees mailings and other development-related communications.
- Prepare marketing tools such as newsletters, flyers, press releases, trifolds and other material needed to promote the school and ensure development plan success.
- Maintain/promote the use of the School’s website (via WIX platform) and social media (Facebook/Instagram)
- Actively develops and disseminates materials through Constant Contact
- Work with the school Principal Board of Trustees on school functions where/when supporters of the School are encouraged to attend.
- Consult with the Principal and the Board’s Development Team in overseeing the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
- Provide development updates and attend Board meetings and Development Team meetings.
- Work with the Development Team to form and engage members of Event Committees.
- Coordinates with the Principal in school-related development activities and consults with the Principal on budget development.
- Nurture the School’s relationships with corporate and other fundraising source.
- Attend staff meetings to maintain, embrace and support the pulse of the school and its needs.
Personal Qualities & Qualifications:
- Enthusiastic commitment to the School’s mission and values.
- Bachelor’s Degree with 1 to 5 years professional development experience.
- Highly entrepreneurial, resourceful, and flexible. Self-starter.
- Adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing, and following through.
- Some knowledge of/exposure to/experience with grant writing --- with oversight responsibility.
- Straightforward, self-motivated, and diplomatic – share information readily. Good listener. Team player, engage with and respect the abilities, ideas and suggestions of Board and staff.
- Energetic and hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fund-raising activities.
- Proficient with computer, and knowledgeable about creation and use of social media and graphic arts.
- Knowledge of the Greater Hartford business community.
- Advanced writing and analytical skills.
- General understanding of business cycle/trends, ideally holding a bachelor’s degree or higher and with experience in business or a related field.
