About the Organization

Heal the Bay is an environmental nonprofit dedicated to making our coastal waters and watersheds safe, healthy and clean. To fulfill our mission, we use science, education, community action and advocacy. We educate the greater Los Angeles region about ocean conservation, the causes and impacts of water pollution, the need for a resilient water supply, and what we can all do to make a difference. We reach over 150,000 people annually through our Heal the Bay Aquarium, beach cleanups and community outreach programs.

About the Role

Heal the Bay is seeking a full-time Advancement Manager to support the organization’s overall fundraising plan and year-round campaigns.

  • Heal the Bay’s Advancement Manager position has approximately 70% Fundraising and 30% Administrative responsibilities.
  • Under the supervision of the Advancement Director and Associate Director, the Advancement Manager will primarily solicit, cultivate, and steward corporate partners in support of the organization’s programs and campaigns.
  • The Advancement Manager will be responsible for creating compelling marketing decks and materials for Advancement team use.
  • The Advancement Manager will also play a key role in supporting the organization’s year-round direct mail campaigns.
  • Administrative responsibilities will include supporting the Advancement team’s use of Salesforce (in coordination with the Data department) and facilitating aspects of the department’s donation acknowledgment program.
Expectations & Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to best practices in fundraising, especially corporate and donor relations.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team to create and implement strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and financial support.
  • Share responsibility of meeting corporate revenue targets as well as the execution of a broader fundraising plan, which includes measurable goals, metrics, and specific strategies for expanding both levels and sources of support.
  • Secure revenue from corporations and brands by stewarding relationships with current partners and cultivating relationships with new prospects in support of the organization’s programs through third-party agreements, organization-wide events (Coastal Cleanup Month, Earth Month, Giving Tuesday, etc.), and shop partnerships.
  • Manage corporate cleanup program, Suits on the Sand, including solicitation and stewardship of prospects,coordination of events in partnership with the Outreach Manager, and post-event follow-up.
  • Research, identify, and vet corporations and brands that will likely serve as sources of support for Heal the Bay’s clean water mission and other priorities as identified by leadership.
  • Develop high-quality proposals, decks, sponsorship documents, correspondence, impact/stewardship reports, and other solicitation tools.
  • Manage donor acknowledgment process in partnership with outside vendor.
  • Support the organization’s year-round direct mail campaigns in partnership with the Communications and Data department.
  • Accurately enter and update information in Salesforce to reflect contact with corporate partners while maintaining confidentiality of donor information.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to upholding and advancing the organization’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), potentially including participation in Heal the Bay’s JEDI Committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
  Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Two-three years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including a background in donor stewardship and corporate relations.
  • The successful candidate will have exceptional writing skills, possess strong attention to detail, demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and will ideally be proficient in Salesforce and MyEmma (or similar email platform).
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently as well as in collaboration with a team and inter-departmentally.
  • The successful candidate will complete assigned tasks with accuracy and minimal direction.
  • Strong computer skills, data entry and Microsoft Office, including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain tracking systems.
  • Ability to develop and implement departmental procedures.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, if necessary.
  • California driver’s license, car, and proof of auto insurance.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position, hiring range starts at $26.44/hour or $55,000 annual equivalent (based on experience) with appropriate state and federal taxes withheld.


Dental, health insurance, and vacation benefits are included as part of employment. In accordance with California Labor Law, employee will be eligible to receive up to 72 hours of paid sick leave per calendar year, after completing 90 days of employment. All Heal the Bay recognized Holidays will be compensated in accordance to time worked.


Position start day ASAP.

Full-time, 40 hours per week. Must be available for some weekends, evenings. Due to COVID-19, we are currently working remotely, but will transition back to working from our Santa Monica office with some flexibility, once it is safe to do so. Heal the Bay offers a dynamic work environment with highly motivated staff and volunteers.
