WFAE is seeking an accomplished Director of Development to lead the station’s Major Gifts team. The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of WFAE’s major gifts, planned giving, grants, and capital campaigns. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director of Branding & Engagement and will work closely with the President & CEO, senior staff, and board members to build compelling fundraising initiatives that fund WFAE services and appeal to the needs and interests of our increasingly diverse community. 

This position will manage a portfolio of WFAE donors, while managing the Major Gifts team of two development officers and ensuring that the CEO’s donor portfolio is fully engaged. 

The Director of Development will make regular presentations to an array of internal and external constituents and should have strong presentation and data analysis skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must embrace the mission of WFAE
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Have strong data analysis and presentation skills.
  • Have a record of success as a fundraiser.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
  • 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
  • Experience managing a major gifts department/team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
  2. Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  3. Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  4. Grow the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
  5. Direct mailings and other donor communications.
  6. Oversee prospect research.
  7. Work closely with WFAE Senior Staff and Board of Directors.
  8. Schedule and lead Board Development Committee meetings.
  9. Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
  10. Maintain gift recognition programs.
  11. Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
  12. Perform other related duties as requested.
