Primary Function: Identifies opportunities for foundation support for University programs and prepares proposals for submission for institutional priorities; prepares written summaries of University priorities, proposals for individual prospects and crafts stories on prospective donors and realized gifts; develops print and electronic communications in support of development activities.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains University relationship with long-term foundation donors via proposal submissions, timely reporting and on-going communications with foundation staff.  

  • Identifies new foundation/organizational prospects with funding areas aligned with University priorities; prepares and submits proposals as appropriate.  

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all proposal submissions, outcomes and reporting requirements/deadlines.  

  • Prepares proposals for individual prospects as requested by major gift staff. 

  • Prepares summaries/outlines of University fund-raising initiatives for in-person group presentations, print and web.  

  • Prepares stories on realized gifts (and the donors) and designs and distributes quarterly donor newsletter – IMPACT 

  • Meets with Vice Provost for Planning and Strategic Initiatives, faculty, gift officers and prospective donors as appropriate to help develop/support fund-raising plans and details for new programs and existing programs and enhancements.  

  • Develops new communications as needed to support fundraising projects and larger efforts such as capital campaigns.

Budgetary Responsibility: Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate:

Education: Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
Experience: 3+ years experience in proposal development and writing or other appropriate writing experience
Job Related Skills: Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
