The University of Colorado Boulder's Advancement Marketing and
Communications team encourages applications for a Senior Visual
Designer! The position serves a key role on a highly upbeat
marketing team that seeks to increase philanthropic support and
engagement for the University. Through partnering with
other marketing team colleagues, as well as experts across the
university, the Creative Communications team contributes visual
expertise to projects that are rooted in strategy. We are looking
for someone who has a balance of great visual design coupled with
an ability to see big picture strategy. With a keen ability to
articulate the reasoning and strategy guiding their work, our ideal
candidate will be thoughtful about the potential impact of the work
they create and strive to build inclusive and accessible
communications. In addition to aligning their creative solutions
with the university's mission, they will keep their audience and
their interests in mind as a guiding context. They are comfortable
designing from scratch as well as responding to established art
direction. Reporting to the Associate Director of Creative
Communications, the Senior Visual Designer leads and assists with
the design of marketing and communications projects from concept
through to final production. The role is responsible for the
conceptualization, presentation, adaptation and execution of design
solutions that meet marketing and communications strategies and are
aligned with the University of Colorado Boulder brand.

- Visually communicate mission, goals and brand identity across digital channels (websites, social media, email, etc.) and in print materials (signage, brochures, event programs, proposals, packaging, merchandising, etc.).
- Present work and creative rationale to colleagues at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Generate creative concepts and collaborate with the Advancement Marketing and Communications team, including editors, writers, photographers, videographers, content developers, to contribute to multi-platform and integrated marketing and communication plans.
- Build assets for digital channels like email, web, videos and social media.
- Work to increase team's design maturity through critical thinking, having a systems mentality, collaboration and testing.
- Collaborate with various departments and team members to provide professional recommendations for concept, design, art direction, production, etc.
- Work with outside contractors to meet production due dates.
- Supervise and mentor a student designer, helping grow their professional skills and establishing a productive workflow of incoming design demands.
- Manage Advancement team digital asset management system, including building editable templates and uploading new assets as necessary.
- Coordinate with central and partner teams regarding consistency of the CU Boulder brand.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and tools.
- Complete other design projects assigned by the Associate Director of Creative Communications and/or Executive Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications.
What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in design, marketing, communications or comparable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years of professional visual design experience, for both digital and print media.
- Experience presenting creative rationale to a range of audiences.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including other marketing fields, like writers, digital strategists, videographers and photographers.
- Experience working in higher education or mission focused organizations.
- Animation skills.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility, particularly as it relates to visual design.
- Experience with custom coding html emails.
- Experience managing brand design assets and systems.
