The world’s leading museum of art, design and performance, the V&A, is supported by the American Friends of the V&A (AFV&A), an independent US 501c3 non-profit organization. The AFV&A is committed to enhancing the work of the V&A through raising its profile and international presence and engaging the US public with its iconic and extensive collections. In the past five years, donors to the AFV&A have contributed over $17 million in gifts and in kind to fund exhibitions, acquisitions, conservation, research and capital projects at the V&A, amplifying its impact and reach.

Based in South Kensington, in the heart of London, with other and new sites across the UK capital and in Dundee, Scotland, the V&A houses a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of creativity. Established in 1852, the Museum’s mission is to enrich people’s lives by promoting research, knowledge and enjoyment of the designed world to the widest possible audience internationally and online. The Museum holds national collections and houses some of the greatest resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewelry, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theatre and performance. The V&A is a global organization, engaging with international contacts through cultural partnerships, trading, touring exhibitions, loans, advice and skills sharing.

The Board of Trustees of the AFV&A now seek an outstanding individual for the role of Executive Director to raise the profile of the V&A; engage the US public with the work of the Museum; and enhance philanthropic support. Reporting to the Board of Trustees and working closely with the V&A’s Development team in London, the Executive Director will maintain and grow relationships with donors, individual collectors, foundations, corporations and other supporters. They will also oversee the administration of the Board of Trustees.

With proven experience of high-value relationship development and income generation, the role of Executive Director is a career-defining opportunity for a forward-thinking, creative leader who has deep knowledge and passion for art, design and performance.

This is a part-time position and the Executive Director is expected to work from home.

The V&A will be assisted in this appointment by global executive search firm Perrett Laver.
