Reporting to the Senior Director of Multicultural and Affinity Engagement, the Associate Director (AD) of Alumni Engagement will oversee programs and volunteer initiatives that drive alumni participation across the university, with a focus on career-based affinity engagement opportunities. The AD is charged with executing a comprehensive strategy engaging alumni, students, and volunteers through the development and implementation of volunteer engagement opportunities, communications, and programmatic opportunities designed to meet organizational need and increase alumni participation. This position works cohesively with the Career Center to ensure that career-related opportunities facilitate both student and alumni networking, leverage alumni expertise, and provide support to both alumni and students in career development.
Essential Functions- Create, implement, and execute volunteer engagement opportunities, communications, and programs designed to meet organizational need and increase alumni participation. This includes volunteer recruitment and management for pertinent programs, event and program management, and administrative and marketing responsibilities for these programs. Collaborate with volunteers to plan and coordinate programs. Assess and market existing programs/events and seek out possibilities for additional programs in partnership with other initiatives. Management of existing industry-based groups includes (but is not limited to) AU’s Entertainment and Media Alumni Alliance, AU’s Women’s Network, and AU’s Eagles Nest. Explore opportunities for additional industry-based affinity groups, in concert with AU’s Career Center, to leverage areas of strength in public policy, international relations, and science.
- Actively build and maintain an alumni volunteer leadership pipeline. This includes leveraging volunteer recruitment strategies to ensure a robust pool of potential volunteers, while also working with current volunteers; intentional onboarding and training for volunteers that articulates the possible breadth of the volunteer experience; and stewardship of current and former volunteers.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with university offices, particularly with the Career Center, the President’s Office, and the Office of Campus Life. Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Alumni Career Programs to fully leverage career-based student-alumni and alumni to alumni programming.
- Work with Advancement Operations to enhance coding and data management of existing and potential groups in CRM Advance.
- Write, edit, and organize various communication mediums, including web content; direct mailings, when applicable; Alumni Update newsletter content; Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other relevant social media outlets; and any other communication vehicles geared towards affinity engagement opportunities.
- Foster professional knowledge and skills through networking with those who lead similar programs at other universities, attending applicable seminars/workshops and maintaining a current awareness of best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Multicultural and Affinity Engagement to enhance the mission and goals of OAR and DAR.

- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in training or experience.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in alumni or donor relations for educational institutions or non-profit organizations
- At least one-year of experience in volunteer management
- Training and or experience managing DEAI initiatives and/or programs preferred
- Intercultural communication skills or a level of intercultural competence preferred
- Ability to independently formulate long-range objectives, and manage varied programs and services
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work independently
- Demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills with follow-up abilities
- Mature and professional attitude, customer/client focus; highly developed interpersonal skills; energetic and detail oriented
- Clear, concise reporting and writing style Computer literacy, particularly MS Word and Excel
- Availability to work some nights and weekends, as well as to travel, regionally and internationally as required
