ROLE of the POSITION

The Senior Director of Development serves as the William S. Boyd School of Law's chief development officer, managing the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects. The Senior Director also manages a personal major and principal gift portfolio.

 

The Senior Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Vice President for Development, and the Dean to advance the mission of the Unit by conceptualizing and implementing strategies to increase financial support from alumni and donors and directing the fundraising strategy of the law school. The Senior Director will be responsible for meeting individual and Unit fundraising goals.

 

The Senior Director will be responsible for managing a donor portfolio of up to 120 prospects with a philanthropic capacity to give $25,000 or more to UNLV. The Senior Director will initiate and conduct at least 10 - 12 visits per month for the purpose of determining philanthropic interests, capacity, and readiness.

 

The Senior Director will develop tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies and present written and oral proposals to donors. He /She will solicit gifts directly or in conjunction with the Dean. The Senior Director will serve as the chief fundraising advisor to the Dean, assisting in developing fundraising plans to meet the strategic goals of the law school. He /She will lead the law school's strategic planning for short-term and long-term fundraising goals and work with external and internal constituents to promote understanding of fundraising priorities.

 

In addition, the Senior Director of Development will:

 

  1. Plan and implement programs, projects, and events that strategically engage and connect alumni, donors, and the community with the Boyd School of Law;

 

  • Build and maintain relationships with law school alumni, including developing, implementing and evaluating programs and events which strategically engage alumni and provide tangible benefits to alumni, current students, and the law school; and
  •  

  • Supervise a coordinator and student employees for database management and events support.
  •  

    The Senior Director will be required to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Regular travel will be required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of three years of experience in development (major and principal gifts fundraising). The position requires a minimum of one year of supervisory experience.  Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience in higher education and in dealing with professionals and executives from private and public sectors. Experience in alumni relations and/or external affairs.

     

    SALARY RANGE

    Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
