The University of Missouri (MU), Office of Advancement, and the
Sinclair School of Nursing, are hiring a Director of Advancement to
work as a Chief Development Officer for the Sinclair School of
Nursing.
This is a professional position in with primary fundraising
responsibilities in the Sinclair School of Nursing. This
Director of Advancement will lead the development program for the
School, with a particular focus on securing major and leadership
gifts (five- to seven-figure gifts). This position,
reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Health Advancement will
be expected to work as part of a larger team of colleagues in
Health Advancement and University Advancement to advance the
mission of the University through philanthropic
support.
Specific Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Collaborate with others to advance advancement program and achieve fund raising goals for the Sinclair School of Nursing, as well as the University, in accordance with the Office of Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Advancement.
- Identify prospective individual, Alumni, corporate and foundation donors--major and leadership gifts--and initiate appropriate personal cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
- Meet annual performance standards with respect to minimum number of 1) submitted major gift proposals; 2) accepted proposals; 3) substantive visits and contacts.
- Future supervisory responsibilities in providing management and oversight to future team members (2+) as program develops.
- Prepare reports and follow up correspondence for donors, Alumni, prospective donors, as well as Nursing and Advancement leadership.
- Work with Dean, department chairs and administrators in the identification and prioritization of appropriate fund-raising activities.
- Provide leadership for other development activities within the School including, but not limited to, annual fund, stewardship, donor recognition and communications
Yearly Goals & Metrics
Success will be measured through the tracking of individually based goals for proposals delivered and closed, number of substantive personal contacts and visits, and dollars raised.
- $2 Million Dollars + Raised
- 10-15 Major Gift Proposals Presented ($50K and above)
- 6-10 Major Gifts Closed ($50K and above)
- 110+ Substantive Written Communications (Email, Letter, or Text)
- 90-115 Substantive Visits (Phone, Virtual, or In-Person)
- 12-25 Evaluation Visits
Preferred Qualifications:
- A four-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
- 5 years fundraising experience, alumni/volunteer relations or public relations; or equivalent transferable skills showing an understanding of the development model, i.e. pursuing and cultivating donors, customers, or business relationships.
- Higher education and or healthcare fundraising experience will be prioritized.
- Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
- Outstanding collaboration as a member of a team and ability to work independently and with many diverse constituencies should be evident.
- Strong organizational skills are required, exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.
- Other important characteristics include a strong work ethic, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking and planning skills, and a commitment to the mission and values of the University of Missouri.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and wireless service in order to carry out the responsibilities associated with the position
Shift: Monday -Friday 8am-5pm with travel expected
within a range of 30 to 40 percent of time. Some irregular
hours, including evening and weekend activities should also be
expected
Salary: Compensation starting at $75,000
