Position- Area Executive Director – DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia (DMV)

The Area Executive Director (AED) is responsible for leading, developing and driving the comprehensive vision, fundraising and growth   strategies to secure funding (annually$38M) within D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia, and in alignment with ALSAC’s Mid-Atlantic territory strategy. The Area’s priority markets include Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD. The AED will lead a talented team of cross-divisional fundraisers to identify, cultivate, solicit/close and steward high wealth donors, corporations, partnerships, individual volunteers, donors, and supporters with the purpose of growing existing revenue sources and creating new revenue opportunities.  Responsibilities

Fundraising 

  • Establish an annual fundraising strategy that represents broad opportunities for donor prospecting, cultivation, acquisition, retention, and growth, with particular focus on building relationships with diverse and high-net worth donors. 
  • Provide leadership to staff to execute on all fundraising including events, corporate support, and major gifts to achieve the Area’s annual fundraising target.
  • Develop and implement shared goals and appropriate strategies to ensure income diversity and growth, moving from transactional to transformational giving. 
  • Build market penetration strategy for Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD.
  • Recruit and direct the meaningful involvement of leadership volunteers in fundraising. 
  • Community Development and Public Outreach

  • Provide leadership, management and support for the development and execution of mission-driven programs.
  • Promote the understanding of the mission of ALSAC/St. Jude in the DMV area with the purpose of elevating market presence, as well as developing long-term relationships and strategic partnerships.
    • Represent ALSAC/St. Jude at designated functions. 

    Management/Leadership

  • Represent the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of ALSAC/St. Jude in all activities and relationships through a unified message and a commitment to organizational standards.
  • Assume responsibility for the management and development of staff and ongoing activities throughout the DMV Area. 
  • Provide strategy vision, inspiration, and motivation for team and ensure staff roles are optimized to increase effective performance.
  • Provide leadership and ensure a strong working relationship between the DMV Area, other Areas, and the Executive Office.
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Master’s preferred.
    • Six or more years of experience in fundraising including previous experience through levels of progressive management responsibility, i.e., supervision, budgeting, strategic planning, organizational development, cost control, manpower allocation, special events, fundraising, etc. 
    • Prior experience with creating a market penetration strategy focused on acquiring and cultivating a diverse donor base. 
    • Successful accomplishments with increasing responsibilities in senior level leadership positions.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, specifically as it relates to internal organizational practices and management. 
    • Demonstrated effective, professional relationships with internal and external key teams.
    • Strong people leader with prior experience in managing a diverse team and fostering a collaborative culture. 
    • Knowledge of philanthropic communities in geographic focus areas, particularly in the DC and Baltimore region.
    • Experience interacting with people of high wealth and influence. 
    • Demonstrated cultural competence. 
    • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends.
    • Entrepreneurial, innovative, and results-oriented leader that brings equal balance of passion and compassion. 
    • Self-directed and capable of working independently with limited oversight. 
    • Ability to quickly understand and assess opportunities and prioritize competing activities.
    • Speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations.
    • Strong executive presence and ability to speak publicly and inspire people to get involved.
