Position- Area Executive Director – New England

The Area Executive Director (AED) is responsible for leading, developing and driving the comprehensive vision, fundraising and growth strategies to secure funding (annually $6M) within the New England Area and in alignment with ALSAC’s Northeast territory strategy. The New England territory includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine, with a primary focus in the Boston and Hartford markets. The AED will partner with the territory to identify, cultivate, solicit/close and steward high wealth donors, corporations, partnerships, individual volunteers, donors, and supporters with the purpose of growing existing revenue sources and creating new revenue opportunities. The AED leads and drives results through an integrated cross-divisional team of six for one of ALSAC’s thirty-one Areas.

Responsibilities

Fundraising 

  • Establish an annual fundraising strategy that represents broad opportunities for donor prospecting, cultivation, acquisition, retention, and growth with particular focus on building relationships with diverse and high-net worth donors. 
  • In coordination with staff, execute all fundraising including events, corporate support, and major gifts to achieve the Area’s annual fundraising target.
  • Direct the meaningful involvement of volunteers in fundraising. 
  • Build market penetration strategy particularly in the Boston area.

Community Development and Public Outreach

  • Provide the leadership, management and support for the development and execution of mission-driven programs.
  • Promote the understanding of the mission of ALSAC/St. Jude in the New England Area with the purpose of elevating market presence, as well as developing long-term relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • Represent ALSAC/St. Jude at designated functions. 

Management/Leadership

  • Represent the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of ALSAC/St. Jude in all activities and relationships through a unified message and a commitment to organizational standards.
  • Assume responsibility for the management and development of staff and ongoing activities throughout the New England Area. 
  • Inspire, motivate, and foster collaboration with New England team.
  • Provide leadership and ensure a strong working relationship between the New England Area and the Executive Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field;Master’s preferred.
  • Six or more years of experiencein fundraising includingprevious experience through levels of progressive management responsibility, 
  • i.e., supervision, budgeting, strategic planning, organizational development, cost control, manpower allocation, special events fundraising, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, specifically as it relates to internal organizational practices and management. 
  • Prior experience with acquiring and cultivating a diverse donor base 
  • Successful accomplishments with increasing responsibilities in senior level leadership positions.
  • Demonstrated effective, professional relationships with internaland external key teams.
  • Experience interacting with people of high wealth and influence.
  • Knowledge of community development best practices and issues.
  • Knowledge of philanthropic communities and culture in geographic focus areas, particularly in the Boston area. 
  • Ability to quickly understand and assess opportunities and prioritize competing activities.
  • Self-directed and capable of working independently with limited oversight and leading a team in a similar manner fostering independence and ownership.
  • Speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to speak publicly and inspire people to get involved.
