Development Manager, WCEG

The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is a non-profit research and grantmaking organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Reporting to the Director of Development, we are seeking a creative, innovative, and independent thinker to help support the Development Team and the entire organization’s mission.   

Working in collaboration with the Development Team, the Development Manager will be responsible for supporting the execution of a comprehensive development plan to broaden our base of support within the ecosphere, diversify revenue streams, to meet and/or exceed ambitious fundraising goals in support of Equitable Growth’s vision. This will include managing a pipeline of current and prospective foundations, individuals, and stakeholders. Secondarily, this position manages, prioritizes, and carries out our fundraising activities and provides support for organization-wide stewardship. This position is ideal for project -oriented, mission-driven, well-organized professionals with outstanding writing and communication capabilities.

Class: Exempt/Full-time

Job Group: 4 (This is a bargaining unit position. Minimum salary band is $67,900)

Responsibilities: 

Fundraising Support and Donor Cultivation: 

  • Works in coordination with the Director of Development to identify, prioritize, and implement fundraising and strategic goals from foundations, major gifts, and other funding sources.   
  • Strategize how to solicit proposal invitations from foundations and major donors.  
  • Directly manage a portfolio of individual and family donors existing and prospective  to increase support over time.  
  • Coach development staff on best practices to  manage and identify to support funder engagement  through the entire grant cycle; cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship process.  
  • Work with Development Director to strategize, plan, and implement pre and post event outreach opportunities for prospects and donors; follows-up as part of overall donor cultivation.  
  • Partner with the development director on implementing optimal processes and standards appropriate for the Equitable Growth’s grant making environment and employing quality support systems and workflows.   
  • Work with the Development Director and Finance to manage the funding pipeline including reporting. Identifying potential gaps regarding budget to actual outcomes and the ability to identify methods to reach overall organizational revenue goals to build a robust prospect pipeline. 

  

Grant Writing & Strategy 

  • Partner with Development team and internal stakeholders to write and submit high-quality proposals, reports, products, and correspondence to current and prospective funders, including large and private foundations. 
  •  Identify potential grant sources and supervise the execution of grant proposals. Manage the writing of high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents. 
  • Work with the Development Director to manage internal and external proposals and report deadlines. 
  • Manage development staff to ensure all support materials that are to be included in the grant and report submission; ensure that the order and labeling of each document is clear and follows the guidance in the grant requirements. 
  • Attend staff meetings and utilize organizational collateral to stay abreast of program developments and report on progress for key funding initiatives. 
  • Work in synergy with the development team to meet departmental and organizational goals. 

  

Prospect Research 

  • Manage and lead  prospect research with Development Associates to identify prospective funders and their alignment with Equitable Growth programming priorities and strategic goals.  
  • Identify current funders and prospect funders' programmatic goals and priorities and how they align with Equitable Growth's work. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Development Director to maintain current data that demonstrates need, supports the research base behind Equitable Growth's programs, and proves program outcomes and efficacy. 
  • Represents the Development in internal meetings to foster cross team collaboration. 
  • Manage and coordinate with Development staff tracking of fundraising activities to internal processes are adhered to. Including but not limited to email with donors, meeting repeat backs, proposals, and background information. 
  • Manage, develop, and support h Development Associate(s) to perform reporting, analyze and ensure data integrity to highlight beneficial information to support decision-making to achieve strategic goals.  

  

Requirements:  

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years of experience with nonprofit fundraising including proposal development.  
  • Experience with grant writing  
  • A track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in five/six-figure ranges. 
  • Strong verbal and written communicator, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality work  
  • Excellent organization, financial and data management, project management, problem-solving and workflow/process design skills.   
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize assignments with minimal supervision. 
  • Familiarity with budgeting and grant reporting, grant writing and a demonstrated ability to learn. 
  • Detail oriented and a strategic thinker who can manage competing priorities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Experience with a customer relationship management database required; Salesforce experience preferred. 
  • Creative, analytical, and strategic thinker. Ability to think out of the box, challenge conventional norms, and try new approaches. 
  • Perform other duties as required.
