POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Chief Program Officer, the Grant Writer works with DHCD/F team members to seek and secure grant funding opportunities that support the strategic and programmatic objectives of the District/Foundation.  

 

FLSA Status

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

 

Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Chief Program Officer (CPO).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Understands the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization, and uses that information to inform grant opportunity research.
  • Research grant opportunities from philanthropists, foundations (national and local), and government and non-government agencies.
  • Develops grant proposals, writes grants, gathers supporting documentation and submits them to the granting agency in a timely manner, meeting all agency guidelines/requirements, and complying with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures quality, accuracy, and completeness of all submitted grant proposals to ensure they are well-researched, well-written, well-documented, and include a sound, well-developed budget.
  • Assists with the continuous improvement of services, programs, activities, materials, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains a master file of pending, existing, and past grants and contracts.
  • Maintains positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

 

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited institution, or the equivalent; degree in Business, Political Science, English Literature, History, or a similar area of study is preferred.

 

Professional Experience

  • Three (3) years of grant writing or related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, tools and strategies used in stakeholder engagement, assessment, and grant writing.

 

Language Skills

  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • The ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, constituents, internal and external stakeholders, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

  • Solid experience with computer skills in email and calendaring applications, and in using word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database software.

 

Other Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects according to established organization criteria and protocols.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a diverse work environment.
