The Stewardship Writer provides writing and donor-centric content creation support for stewardship efforts in the Office of Institutional Advancement with the goal of engaging donors with Jefferson. The Stewardship team manages high volume reporting and communication in a fast-paced environment. The Stewardship Writer will have writing responsibilities with primary focus on creating personalized content, reports, and acknowledgement letters to strengthen donor confidence, enhance the donor experience, and increase donor satisfaction and retention. Must have superior writing and storytelling skills, preferably with experience in development writing. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding donors and patients. 

  • Open to a hybrid work schedule
  • A cover letter and two writing samples is required with application.


  • Works collaboratively with Development Officers, other colleagues, and students to write and create meaningful, personalized, donor-centric, and timely stewardship content highlighting benefactor impact on Jefferson’s clinical, educational and research initiatives.
  • Writes timely and meaningful acknowledgement, condolence, and congratulatory correspondence from Jefferson senior leadership.
  • Produces materials including but not limited to letters, impact reports, digital content, and other items as needed in service of campaign stewardship efforts.
  • Interacts with colleagues, visitors, and other constituents consistent with the values of Jefferson.



Bachelor’s Degree required, with preference for marketing, communications, English, or journalism majors


3-5 years professional writing experience; experience in nonprofit work or the development field preferred


  • Experience with writing in a professional setting required; development writing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, marketing, and development for a hospital or academic institution is
  • preferred.
  • Ability to translate medical or scientific information into lay language helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups (students, faculty, clinicians, administrators, and other colleagues throughout Jefferson).
  • Demonstrated strong initiative and problem-solving skills to work effectively in a large, complex and growing organization, and a strong desire to create “best-in-class” programming in Stewardship.
  • Highly motivated to learn and grow, and flexible to change.
  • Highest standards of confidentiality, discretion and donor-centric responsiveness due to donor contact throughout the year.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with others as a team within OIA and throughout Jefferson.
  • Additionally, all employees are expected to have good presentation skills, which includes and is not limited to the following items: excellent verbal and written communication skills, initiative, flexibility and patience, an appropriate sense of urgency in order to respond to donor requests, and an openness to new ideas and diverse perspectives.
  • Job requires occasional ability to work evenings to attend key events.
