The mission of Beloit College’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations is to inform external constituents of the College’s mission and goals, to involve them as volunteers in fulfilling its mission, and most importantly, to inspire them to invest their resources in support of the identified current objectives and future dreams. The Assistant Director of Development Communications is an integral part of a team that cultivates mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, and friends to secure private support for the College.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Development Outreach, the Assistant Director will support and execute design, implementation, writing, and measurement around development and alumni relations communications and marketing activities. In addition to assisting the division’s marketing and communications, the Assistant Director independently manages project activity and production, writes content, and provides creative direction to help powerfully and persuasively position Beloit before alumni, parents, and influencers.

The Assistant Director must be able to convey to a multitude of audiences the College’s mission and seek their volunteer and financial support. The Assistant Director must exercise strong initiative and independent judgment in executing the office’s ongoing work in an environment that is both very fast-paced and very dynamic. The Assistant Director works with highly confidential information on a daily basis and uses discretion in sharing information with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications:

  • Working within the Office of Development & Alumni Relations (DAR), identify, create, manage, and implement compelling content and outreach materials for DAR marketing, communications, and outreach efforts.
  • Working with the Executive Director, drive content for appeals, event marketing materials, ad copy, video scripts, newsletters, stewardship and awareness pieces, magazine content, and electronic, web, and social media content. Collaborate closely with members of DAR to ensure effective communications and storytelling regarding the importance of Beloit College’s mission to inspire giving, volunteerism, and engagement with the institution.
  • Assist the Executive Director with providing major gift officers all their communication needs by developing materials for cultivation, proposals, and stewardship.
  • Assist gift processors by providing mail collateral and coordination of appeal tracking.
  • Help develop and shepherd all levels of stewardship materials and communications including endowment reports, gift receipting, and thank you materials. Work with partners across the campus to develop stories of how philanthropy changes the College.
  • Provide content and support for the Alumni and Giving portions of the college website and for the college’s social media presence.
  • Familiarity with, interest in, and willingness to learn, Adobe Creative Suite, social media and email marketing, print production, and experience with website content management systems.

Other:

  • Assist the Executive Director and DAR staff with communication needs, including reports, presentations, correspondence, etc.
  • Staff DAR events, such as Beloiter Days, donor and volunteer recognition events, alumni events, etc. This could include regional travel to alumni or development events.
  • Represent DAR’s marketing and communications needs on campus committees and through other venues as appropriate.
  • Perform other similarly related duties as assigned.

Credentials and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least three (3) years of professional marketing and communications experience preferred.
  • Experience working in communications roles and supporting advancement, development, campaign, annual fund, and/or alumni relations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred; willingness to work with diverse populations required.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions is required.
