Compensation: $100,000 - $150,000+, depending on experience

About: Global Press is hiring a Development Director to lead values-driven fundraising efforts to catalyze growth and impact across the organization. The Development Director sits on the organization’s leadership team and reports to the CEO. They will fundraise from individuals, foundations, family foundations and corporations. This role, the first of its kind at Global Press, will build out and manage a growing development department to maximize diverse revenue streams.  Global Press is an employee-centered workplace that prioritizes employee wellness and journalistic excellence in a diverse, challenging, creative, humor-filled environment.

  • Collaborate with the CEO to build a vision for the future of development operations at Global Press

  • Design and implement a departmental strategy to build a team of fundraisers across revenue streams

  • Manage all development team members, including contractors

  • Oversee the organization’s $7M annual revenue goal

  • Manage an individual portfolio of relationships with a goal of raising a minimum of US$3M annually via new relationships

  • Oversee donor prospecting processes to ensure pipeline health and consistent outreach and relationship development

  • Lead all donor cultivation and stewardship activities

  • Collaborate with the development associate to maintain accurate donor records

  • Collaborate on all organizational events, with an eye toward donor cultivation, stewardship and revenue generation

  • Oversee external communications strategy

  • Represent Global Press at a variety of events, conferences and salons as a master of Global Press mission and messaging

  • Liaise with the Board of Directors to activate networks and source leads

  • Collaborate with the editorial and operations teams to ensure development strategies are adequately supporting their work

  • Sit on the 2023-2025 Strategic Planning Task Force

  • Enforce the organization’s gift acceptance policy, ensuring every dollar brought into the organization is values aligned, supports the creation of independent journalism and prioritizes the wellness of our reporters and staff

Here are a few other things we’re looking for: 

  • 7+ years in nonprofit development with a track record of mission-driven fundraising across segments

  • Experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute major gift activities and success raising $3M annually

  • Experience independently raising six and seven-figure gifts from individuals, corporates and foundations

  • Powerful storytelling, messaging and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead and nurture teams

  • Proven ability to work strategically with senior leadership

  • Exceptional judgement, tact, and powerful communication skills

  • Experience using Salesforce to enable donor retention and management 

  • A keen eye for detail, copywriting, presentation skills

  • The ability to respond effectively to challenges with enthusiasm and good humor

The Development Director role is a full-time position offered within the United States.
