Environment California -  Donor Development Associate

We are hiring for a Donor Development Associate to help build the resources to advance our environmental protections across the state of California.

Every day, we see more heartbreaking evidence of the damage being done to our planet: climate change, plastic pollution, wildlife disappearing forever. But we also see the solutions all around us: solar and wind power, electric cars and buses, more walkable and “bikeable” cities, reusing and repairing stuff instead of throwing it away… the list goes on. Thousands of Environment California members feel passionately about these issues, and as our Donor Associate, you would meet with members of Environment California to share more about our work, make their voices heard, and raise money to fund our work to protect wildlife, reduce plastic pollution, address the climate crisis, and more.

You’ll be part of the in-state advocacy team as well as part of our national team of dedicated development professionals that deepen the financial and political support of members of Environment California and other groups in The Public Interest Network.

The ideal candidate is passionate about protecting nature, believes in the power of building a community of supporters, and is a proven fundraiser who sees fundraising as a powerful way to advance change.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Direct Fundraising

Implement a monthly strategy of writing, calling, and holding one-on-one meetings with current members and prospective donors to share stories about our work and invite them to deepen their financial support. You’ll typically visit with approximately 20 members each month.

Meet specific weekly and monthly fundraising benchmarks, which are related to annual organizational fundraising goals so we can sustain and expand our campaigns.

Develop and maintain relationships with donors from Environment California and from other groups within The Public Interest Network.

Cultivate engaged donors to assist with fundraising events like virtual webinars or house parties, in person when safe to do so.

Donor Stewardship & Development

Be a personal point of contact with donors throughout the year, creating and sending at least ten personalized updates.

Engage donors in program and organizational work, such as events or campaign actions both online and in-person when safe to do so.

Develop and implement customized cultivation strategies for top donors, working directly with our advocacy staff to craft compelling narratives.

Be the point of contact between our advocacy staff and members.

Maintain excellent notes on all contacts with information about members and donors.

Administration

Understand the importance of systems and diligently track income, expenses and contacts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Implement required legal disclosures and other administrative duties as assigned.
