Position Description

The Comic Relief US Communications Director will lead on the development and implementation of integrated PR and communication programs and messaging that shape the awareness and perception for Comic Relief US (CRUS), and its campaigns (including Red Nose Day (RND) and other campaigns to be developed) across all consumer and trade touch points, executive thought leadership and partners.


The Director should possess excellent communications and leadership skills to work cross-functionally across the organization to develop and lead an integrated long and short term messaging strategy that supports the brand and goals for the organization.


This role reports to the SVP of Marketing & Branding.


Overview and Responsibilities

  • Planning and executing internal and external brand building and communications strategies
  • Working closely with all external agency partners to support all brand and communication campaign activities through an effective messaging strategy while owning and developing a comprehensive internal and external communications and messaging calendar to maximize impact and priorities
  • Collaborate with key external partners and stakeholders PR/Comms teams to develop unified strategies that drive campaigns and thought leadership
  • Lead on the following external communications, including:
  • Coordinate and respond to all inbound inquiries and proactively pitch consumer/ lifestyle/ entertainment media
  • Manage executive media training, speeches, award submissions etc.
  • Lead of all crisis and issues management and preparedness materials.
  • Lead on the strategy and development for all internal communications, including:
  • Messaging strategy, board messaging, newsletters, Theory of Change, impact storytelling, report back, newsletters and opportunistic comms.
  • Be a true partner with Marketing Director and CD on the development of creative briefs and messaging strategy for all internal and external marketing collateral
  • Collaborate with Grants and Creative to develop impact storytelling and report back strategy
  • Support SVP on development and execution of high level thought leadership initiatives and presentations
  • Write and edit press releases, talking points, FAQs, briefing documents, boilerplates, company annual report, and other press and company materials, including executive bios and presentation support
  • Serve as the first line of support for all inbound trade and consumer press enquiries
  • Assist in identifying potential (crisis) communication problem areas and recommend viable solutions
  • Oversee media monitoring and report on industry news and competitor activity.
  • Develop market insight and monitor development and sentiment to identify emerging opportunities
  • Establish measurable MarComms KPI’s


Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS in English, Communications, Journalism or another liberal arts degree
  • 10+ years of professional experience in a marketing and communications preferably in media/entertainment and/or non-profit managing internal marketing campaigns and communications/PR activity
  • Excellent media relationships & contacts
  • Experience of managing a complex combination of partners and brands to positive and productive output
