Responsibilities
The Regional Director of Development for the Northeast region will strategically design and execute a personal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic support by maximizing the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects for gifts at the $100,000 and up level. This individual will be responsible for the identification of potential major gift prospects within the assigned region, connecting them effectively with the key individuals (constituent development staff, deans and other university administrators, central development staff) as appropriate to the areas of donor interest. The Regional Director of Development will solicit philanthropic support from among prospects in the assigned region in collaboration with development colleagues and stakeholders.
The Regional Director of Development will travel to targeted areas within the Northeast region of the United States on a regular basis.
Strategic Fundraising Development
Manage a portfolio of research-based major gift prospects ($100,000 and larger) for the purpose of assessment and working collaboratively with development colleagues and leadership to cultivate and solicit major gift support of all academic programs of Florida State University. Solicit gifts primarily at the major gift level ($100,000 and larger), concentrating on institutional priorities at both the university level and unit level. Lead special projects as assigned by supervisor that support academic philanthropy for the university and involve interdisciplinary approach of collaboration.
Regional Representation
Strengthen the presence of FSU in the region served by promoting the academic programs of the university. Serve as a visible, key representative of the University and Foundation in the region, as well as the primary liaison for FSU leadership who visit the area. Effectively communicates organization’s mission and represents the organization’s culture to external stakeholders.
Responsible for creating an annual regional plan that incorporates a detailed strategy for prospects, donors and events located in the geographic region to maximize philanthropy and outreach. Work with the Seminole Clubs and the affinity groups associated with the FSU Alumni Association to educate on philanthropy and to identify ways to maximize philanthropy, solicitation and documentation of gifts. Work with the Office of Advancement Relations to lead the invite process and coordinate event planning for specialized events within region.
Administration/Other
Record meetings, interactions and input of planned giving data in the foundation’s database in a timely manner and protects the confidential information contained in that database. Protects confidential information. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six years of experience in a related advancement field or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to ten years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.
A self-starter, comfortable working independently.
Ability to maintain consistent and positive communication with the Foundation and internal campus partners.
Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.
Ability to facilitate strong communications with colleagues, donors, prospective donors and alumni, including letters, surveys and telephone solicitation programs.
Must be a creative thinker and a recognition of the impact of meaningful stewardship.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage competing deadlines.
Ability to handle confidential, sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism.
A valid Driver's License, or the ability to obtain.

Preferred
Advanced degree preferred.
Professional demeanor with a teamwork approach and a can-do, assertive philosophy.
Professional experience in major gift development in a university setting; Experience in a related field with basic knowledge of personal solicitation methods may also be considered.
Experience with Black Baud’s CRM Platform or other fundraising information management systems/databases preferred.
