FHI 360 is seeking a seasoned fundraising professional who has experience working in a complex international nonprofit organization across multiple lines of business to serve as the Managing Director of its subsidiary, FHI Partners. FHI Partners was established to raise FHI 360’s profile through sharing our unique methodologies and approaches and fostering greater synergies and partnerships with private sector, multinationals, foundations, ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWI), and social enterprises to maximize program impact on key human development and equity challenges.

 

The Managing Director will report directly to the CEO and work in close collaboration with the C-Suite officers, the Director, Business Development and Diversification, and the technical and geographic business unit leadership.  The successful candidate will be a compelling connector and communicator with leaders in business, government, and the funding, civic and nonprofit communities.

 

Duties include:

  • Develop clear strategy priorities and operational plan for FHI Partners.

  • Through the FHI Partners core team, leverage FHI 360’s broad and deep technical expertise to build innovative programs with potential funders in areas such as pandemic preparedness, global health security, and climate change and conflict. The objectives of these programs are to close equity gaps in critical human development services around the world, accelerate the introduction of emerging technologies, and expand opportunities for meaningful economic participation and access to health and education services.

  • Strategically identify, build, and cultivate long-term relationships through membership and participation in a wide range of networks, potential program partners and business leaders,  including multinational executives, foundations, influential social enterprise civic leaders, and UHNWI in the US and overseas.

  • Lead all aspects of the development of competitive and compelling requests for foundation and corporate funding ensuring optimal integration/collaboration of key internal FHI 360 stakeholders in the proposal development process.

  • Develop annual budgets and ensure sound financial oversight of FHI Partner resources.

  • Strengthen FHI 360’s brand recognition and contribute to efforts to communicate and expand FHI 360’s values, evidence-based solutions, and global impact.

  • Build on the organizational vision and develop strategic priorities and operational plan for FHI Partners to include private fundraising to support the FHI 360 mission and programmatic and advocacy priorities.

  • Manage relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective foundations through all phases of the donor pipeline, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Serve as a member of the Expanded Leadership Forum and coordinate closely with other senior leaders on vision and alignment of workflows and processes to further FHI 360 goals.

 

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Successful track record in private fundraising market with knowledge of current trends in foundation and corporate funding in the US and key non-US markets, UHNWI, as well as institutional funders committed to supporting organizations with a similar mission to FHI 360/FHI Partners.

  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar projects with large foundations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex matrixed organizational environments, across practice units and geographies facilitating collaborative conversations.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including writing, editing, presenting, and collaboration within the organization and among leaders in business, government, and the funding civic and nonprofit communities.

  • Knowledge of SalesForce and Deltek a plus.

 

Education:

  • Master’s degree required or international equivalent in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.

 

Experience:

  • 12+ years of progressive management experience generating revenue in both the nonprofit and private sectors with a focus on human development work.

  • Expertise in the development and grantmaking processes in the nonprofit/philanthropic sector with proven track record of closing six to eight figure grant contracts and growing new and existing relationships.

  • Significant record of advising ultra-high net worth individuals and families, influencing financial or philanthropic decisions.

  • Successful experience in facilitating collaboration and engagement across complex organizations around a common vision.

  • Superior level of customer service and follow-through.

  • Prior experience in a senior leadership/executive position with a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 10-25%
