Manager, Donor Relations

The Manager, Donor Relations, will support frontline fundraisers and sustain positive and mutually rewarding relations between Spirit of America and our supporters by planning and implementing stewardship activities for donors; create stewardship reports and acknowledgements, utilizing PowerPoint, video, and email; coordinate tailored donor stewardship and recognition events and trips; and ensure timely and thorough tracking of stewardship activities. The position requires a keen understanding of the importance of building relationships between Spirit of America and its supporters and must be able to initiate and prepare sensitive and confidential correspondence and other documents with a high level of discretion.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Track individual, corporate and foundation successes and translate this information into funder materials and pitches including talking points and PowerPoint presentations.  

  • Oversee and manage virtual and physical donor events for the organization. 

  • Provide outreach to prospective donors to set-up meetings and provide background information.  

  • Coordinate meeting logistics for prospective funder meetings including scheduling locations, travel, writing briefings, and preparing materials. 

  • Work closely with peers in marketing and communication in the development of impactful donor marketing and communication materials, including pitch presentations, invitations, and follow-up communications. 

  • Manage meeting follow-up and support such as drafting emails and thank you notes and sending supplementary materials 

  • Work with the finance and legal team to ensure that donors are being acknowledged appropriately. 

  • Respond to requests for information from donors relating to giving processes, procedures, and opportunities as well as gift documentation such as tax receipts and thank you letters.  

  • Assist in managing a stewardship plan, including tracking, and following annual stewardship reporting. 

  • Work collaboratively with the other development staff to assure compliance and accuracy in stewardship. 

  • Assist in drafting and preparing gift acknowledgement letters. 

  • Oversee the accurate entry of all donations into the CRM.  

  • Provide additional administrative support with the database as needed. 

  • Manage a development associate and research positions 

  • Update the CRM as necessary to ensure proper documentation of moves management.  

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five years of experience or equivalent combination in a mission driven and/or donor-driven environment.  

  • Experience selling or supporting the sales process is required. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and extreme comfort with writing, proofreading, and editing.  

  • Highly capable in working with database software, spreadsheet software (such as Excel), graphing and charting software, word processing software (such as Word) and presentation software (such as Power Point). 

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising and stewardship best practices. 

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and attention to detail. 

  • Have demonstrated respect and sensitivity for cultural differences and the ability to foster relationships with current and potential donors. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with donors in order to build strong trust-based relationships
