Under the direction of the Chief Philanthropy and Growth Officer (CPGO), the Development Manager will ensure the continued fiscal stability and growth of Crossroads4Hope through the stewardship of strong relationships and partnerships with current and prospective funders. Works with the leadership team to develop and execute plans that include development of a pipeline to fund the organization’s programs and initiatives. Maintains, expands, and stewards the organization’s base of supporters, some of whom will develop into major and leadership givers. Supports the fundraising efforts of the CPGO and CEO in securing new and renewed gifts.

Corporate/Foundation Donors

Funding Proposals

  • Develop and write proposals to foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
  • Maintain a calendar to ensure timely submissions of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports.
  • Conduct research and identify new prospective funders.
  • Analyze funder guidelines to carefully ensure that proposals meet funder requirements and align to the mission, programs, and goals of CR4H.
  • Assemble and submit grant requests, as well as supporting documentation including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
  • Ensure timely acknowledgement of corporate and foundation gifts.
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors, and ensure funds received are used as intended.
  • Gather necessary information and provide regular written updates to corporate and foundation donors.

Relationship Management

  • Maintain a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors with the goal of maintaining and increasing their philanthropic involvement with CR4H.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and maintaining relationship records using Salesforce to record all plans, tasks, and interactions.
  • Develop solicitation strategies for donors/prospects in support of the organization's unrestricted and restricted fundraising initiatives; ensure all strategies are compatible, and maximize funding opportunities and sources.
  • Ensure proper recognition of corporations/foundations as committed, including in all programs and events. Oversee accurate donor lists for publications.

Individual Donors

  • Develop an annual direct appeal strategy and implementation timeline.
  • Plan the schedule of appeals in relationship to other fundraising activities.
  • Develop the annual giving solicitation material in coordination with Marketing; manage mailing or other distribution.
  • Manage donor database and generate reports.
  • Supervise donor acknowledgements and tracking.
  • Identify a portfolio of prospects for further cultivation, and develop cultivation plans.

Annual Event

  • Provide leadership and guidance to event committee. Recommend strategies to drive the desired event experience.
  • Secure venues and coordinate event logistics.
  • Supervise and coordinate all event details with contractors and committee, including location, catering, décor, lighting, entertainment, invitation list, audio visuals, mission moment, etc.
  • Prepare and modify event contracts; arrange for CPGO approval and CEO signature.
  • Coordinate publicity, including public relations, advertising, and collateral material design, production, and distribution with Marketing.
  • Oversee onsite fundraising for the event; solicit and secure prizes and in kind donations.
  • Manage the day-of event, set up, onsite production and clean-up. Proactively handle any issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems.
  • Develop progress and closing reports to CEO/CPGO to be reported to the Board of Trustees.

Other

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
  • Set goals and milestones for all assigned fundraising responsibilities.
  • Accurately maintain donor records, opportunities, and tasks in Salesforce.
  • Maintain grant folders in the Shared Drive, and corresponding office files.
  • Participate in the creation of the annual development budget.
  • Develop and oversee a strong volunteer/internship program in support of development function through recruitment, training, motivating, and supporting volunteers and interns.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Background

  • BA/BS and 2 years of relevant experience in grant writing or development. 
  • Demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously and liaising with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Knowledge of CRM software such as Salesforce is preferred.
  • Proficient in computer (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and communication equipment operation.

Desired Competencies

  • Excellent written communication skills with storytelling capabilities; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Flexibility in approach to work, and agility in response to donor needs.
  • Strong editing skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors a plus.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, knowledge, and familiarity with techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter; able to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong contributor in team environments.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Ability to monitor and meet income goals.
