The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) seeks an organized and highly-motivated individual to support the organization’s development function. Working on a part-time, contractual basis, the Development Associate will provide key operational support to the development team, maintaining NCTQ’s funder database and assisting with portfolio development and diversification. The Development Associate will play an important role in identifying and qualifying new prospects including foundations and major donors.

 

NCTQ’s mission is to ensure that every child has access to an effective teacher and that every teacher has the opportunity to become effective. We achieve this mission by bringing data to bear on key teacher quality issues and challenging the institutions with the most influence over the teacher workforce to improve. Our staff all work remotely which is well suited for the dynamic and fast-paced nature of our work. The Development Associate will work an estimated 20 hours per week and will report to the Director of Development. The hours are flexible, with limited meetings taking place during business hours in the EST time zone. 

 

Core Responsibilities:

Prospect Research

    Research and qualify individual and foundation prospects, leveraging various tools such as iWave, Inside Philanthropy, foundation websites, LinkedIn, etc. Actively manage and build NCTQ’s leads list, elevating qualified prospects to the portfolio  Develop prospect profiles and meeting briefings, leading to donor outreach

Stewardship

    Draft grant reports and stewardship materials, ensuring customization based on donor interest and intent Manage the timely acknowledgement of gifts

Development Operations

    Oversee the input, maintenance, and reporting of development data in NCTQ’s database (Airtable) including relevant information on prospects, grant deliverables and outcomes, and funder interactions Develop and maintain grants calendar, with attention to key deadlines and deliverables Participate in weekly development team meetings, capturing key insights, tasks, and upcoming deliverables Coordinate development tasks in partnership with the Director, using a project management approach

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

    Acute attention to detail and demonstrated proactive approach to project and task management Ability to execute projects independently while also contributing to team goals Strong sense of judgement and professionalism with the ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality Proficient with G-Suite including Docs, Sheets, Slides; experience managing Shared Drives a plus
    Familiarity with research methods, databases, and network mapping Interest in K-12 education reform and educational equity; knowledge of teacher quality or teacher preparation a plus
