Vice President(VP), Development

 

Reporting to the President and CEO, the VP, Development will join the  Senior Executive Team (SET) member and help make strategic decisions that affect  FairVote’s fundraising and donor relations. In partnership with the CEO, the SET, and the Board, this position is responsible for designing and implementing all fundraising and development activities and leveraging the CEO to maximum impact. The successful candidate will help deepen and forge relationships to increase FairVote's visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP, Development also will design and implement a comprehensive plan for targeted donor relations, developing key external alliances, and cultivating individual philanthropic support.

 

The VP, Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $6M budget through the solicitation of institutional, foundational, and individual support. 

 

As FairVote scales toward its national impact, the VP, Development will systematically and effectively strengthen the organization's overall fundraising capacity. S/He will expand and diversify FairVote's donor base/pipeline and work closely with other FairVote team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on additional fundraising roles.



Key Responsibilities 

 

    Assess FairVote's current fundraising strategies and tactics.  Design a comprehensive development plan, including revenue and expense projections. Make recommendations regarding the level of investment in staff and other resources to maximize revenue from private sources. Coordinate work with the CEO/Founder to maximize opportunities with his current and prospective donor relations Manage the day-to-day activities of FairVote's fundraising operation.  Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position FairVote ahead of significant funding changes or trends Serve as the staff liaison for the Board of Directors’ Development Committee. Provide grants administration and ensure that donor stewardship programs cultivate deeper ties with donors, and the recognition is appropriate for all constituent groups. Ensure that appropriate systems, policies, and procedures govern and administer all aspects of the development program.

 

    Work with other FairVote team members to ensure coordinated communication and marketing strategy.
    Identify, develop, and mentor new development team members

 

 

Qualifications

 

    7-10 years of progressive development leadership experience. A documented track record of experience working with high net-worth individuals, corporations, and foundations. Demonstrated understanding of fundraising strategies for advocacy and educational nonprofit organizations. Experience working with issues around electoral reforms is preferred. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment.  Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Excellent project management skills: experienced in managing complex management projects. Excellent multi-tasking skills and attention to detail: capable of following through on every task, no matter how big or small.
