Purpose of Position
Who we want:
An experienced Planned Giving professional who will design and implement a comprehensive and innovative planned giving strategy for the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Office of Institutional Advancement (IA).

As we grow our team in Advancement, we are looking for a strategic partner to build on our existing strategies and formalize a sophisticated planned giving program to drive significant growth in revenue. UTEP, and our planned giving efforts, have vastly unrealized fundraising potential. We anticipate significant and sustained fundraising success and team growth in the next 2-3 years.

Essential Functions
What you'll do:
In this role, you'll be empowered to refine, develop, and implement a comprehensive planned giving strategy for the University.

This includes not only managing an active portfolio of planned giving prospects and efficiently moving them through the donor continuum, but also serving as a strategic partner for other frontline fundraisers when planned giving vehicles are central to securing commitments and blended gift opportunities match donors' philanthropic and financial goals. Additionally, you will work in close collaboration with the principal gifts team to develop strategy, cultivation efforts, and solicitation plans for the University's top prospects.

In partnership with the Senior Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications, University Communications, and other school/college communications teams, you will develop and implement targeted marketing and communication avenues to raise donor awareness on the importance and benefits of planned giving and provide leadership as our organization's primary subject matter expert on all deferred gift vehicles.

Required Qualifications
What you'll need to be successful:
  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Six or more years successful planned gift fundraising or related experience (required)
  • Demonstrated success persuading and influencing groups and individuals to support the organization's agenda with respect to donors, colleagues, volunteer leadership, and other stakeholders
  • An unending commitment to positively contributing to our team culture; we spend more time at work than with our families and we must all fully commit to making UTEP IA a great place to work
  • Tenacious optimism and a goal-oriented, growth mindset; the ability to remain flexible and develop creative solutions in pursuit of always maintaining forward momentum
  • Capacity to multi-task and continually balance competing priorities within a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a small team with limited resources, supporting the success of all colleagues and prioritizing the UTEP's overall goals above personal achievement

    Preferred Qualifications
It'd be nice if you had:
  • A JD, LLM, CPA or other related advanced degree
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) certification
  • Experience in tax, trust, estate planning, wealth management, financial planning, and charitable gift laws
  • Successful track record with planned giving marketing and communications
  • Experience using a fundraising database (we use Raiser's Edge/NXT and FPM)
