Dartmouth seeks a Senior Director of Volunteer Engagement to serve as the key strategic and operational partner to the Vice President of Alumni Relations related to creating volunteer structures and managing staff to optimize the volunteer experience for alumni. The Senior Director collaborates with the Vice President to develop volunteer engagement goals, strategies, and operating plans focused on leveraging volunteers to understand, promote, and maximize support for Dartmouth's priorities, mission, and key initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring there is an inclusive, welcoming volunteer community who adds value to and maintains the strong alumni network Dartmouth is famous for. This position will oversee a team of 10 dedicated professionals and play an active role in the life of the College, both on and off campus, including participation in homecoming, commencement, class reunions, and more, to ensure all alumni feel welcome, inspired, and energized.

The Senior Director will have excellent leadership skills, will be strategic, and bring a track record of managing a high-performing team, strong customer service/alumni support skills, and a bent toward innovation. This individual will inspire and empower others in the alumni body and across campus in support of the broader vision and goals of alumni relations and the institution. Key professional experiences and core competencies include: Bachelor's degree with 10+ years in alumni relations or the equivalent 10+ years of staff and customer management experience; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; a proven manager of large teams who can attract, retain, and develop talent as well as foster an inclusive, cohesive, and vibrant culture; a strategist that can introduce new ideas and initiatives while respecting Dartmouth's long-standing traditions; ability to develop programs, products, and services to meet constituency needs; excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills; leadership skills to help volunteer leaders succeed and build connections with alumni through events, communications, and initiatives. We need a people person at heart who is approachable and likeable, with the ease to handle a high-volume, high-touch, fast-paced environment.
