Resource Development Director

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Resource Development Director with direction from the Executive Team and Board of Directors, will be responsible for planning and executing resource development strategies and monitoring progress toward goals. The Resource Development Director supports the Executive Team in positioning the Board to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies and others and is responsible for providing leadership and direction to staff, as needed, in their role of supporting the resource development and marketing efforts.

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning:

In collaboration with the Executive Team and Board, develops, implements and focuses on the 3 to 5-year horizon for the strategic plan. Focusing on the single and multi-year resource development efforts.

  • Researches and analyzes agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor base (Donor Perfect) and recommended solicitation strategies.
  • Prepares and presents for approval proposals for corporate and foundation support of the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials.
  • Oversees planning of logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts and preparing related printed materials and publications.
  • Designs and implements direct mail programs.
  • Provides support for various fund-raising projects/initiatives assigned by the Executive Team such as endowments, major gifts and planned giving.

Ensures the evaluation of Development activities and identifies opportunities to improve results.

Stays current and up to date on fund development trends along with new revenue sources.

Leadership:

Provides leadership and direction to the Executive Team and Board of Directors in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations, ensure sustainability, and deliver programs within the community.

In conjunction with the Office Manager, coordinates assignments for the Administrative Assistant.

Coordinates with Club Professionals who have expressed an interest and have a talent to support Marketing and Development efforts.

Manages and leads contracts directly related to fund development such as, but not limited to:

  • Marketing Contractor
  • Grant Writer Contractor
  • Event Planner Contractor

Partnership Development:

Develops strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials. Develops collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, investors and community organizations.

 

Resource Management:

Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Club's annual budget, controlling expenditures within budget and maintaining donor and financial records in accordance with standards.

Ensures productive and effective performance from resource specific contracts: Marketing, Grant Writer and Event Planner Contractor.

Marketing and Public Relations:

Increases visibility of Club Development activities and maintains good public relations. 

Board Development:

Identifies, recruits and trains Board Members to participate in solicitation and other income development activities.

Encourages and supports Board Committees responsible for planning and implementing development activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

Ensure design and development of presentations and public relations materials for use in the promotion of fund raising and education of the public, including press releases. Ensure the development and distribution of marketing documents. 

RELATIONSHIP:

Internal:  Maintains oral and written contact with the Executive Team, Board of Directors, staff, colleagues, and volunteers for the purpose of the exchange of information, to provide progress reports regarding activities and planning programs, and to coordinate events.

External:  Maintains oral and written contact with other agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations and the media for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

A minimum of three years work experience in non-profit agency operations, specifically in the fund-raising field, sales /marketing or equivalent experience.

Considerable knowledge of fund-raising techniques and sources of funding for non-profit agencies and organizations.

Ability to set personal goals and objectives related to the Resource Development Director position.

Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures and of the principles and practices of non-profit organizations - youth development services preferred.

Ability to organize and coordinate fund-raising operations.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups and other related agencies.

Knowledge of accessing and managing donor base (Donor Perfect).

Mandatory CPR, First Aide and AED Certifications.

Valid Driver's License and clear driving record.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  1. Use of hands and upper extremities to type and operate computers.
  2. Manual dexterity to repair equipment.
  3. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds.
  4. Ability to sit, stand and walk to supervise members and set up events.
