General Purpose of the Position:

The Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF)is seeking a highly motivated, results-driven fundraising leader to serve as Director of Development. This position is responsible for creating and implementing the overall development plan and overseeing all fundraising activities with a primary focus on identifying, cultivating, and stewarding major donors. Through the efforts and support of the Director, ECF hopes to broaden its visibility, deepen its relationship with donors and increase its philanthropic support. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, and hands-on, and will be focused on rebuilding ECF’s development efforts. ECF is an independent, lay led and inclusive organization that helps build, vitalize, and transform Episcopal faith communities focusing on formation, finance, and resources. Our purpose is to be a catalyst, agent and advocate for transformation, renewal, and growth in the Episcopal Church in practical, innovative, and spiritually grounded ways.  

Supervisory and Other Contacts:

The Director reports to the President and serves on the Executive Team. The Director works closely and collaboratively with the other program and administrative staff, especially the Director of Communications, and interacts with donors and leaders of Episcopal dioceses, parishes, and other organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan consistent with the mission and strategic direction of ECF including annual, major, and planned gift initiatives.
  2. Establish fundraising forecasts, budgets, calendars, and action plans.
  3. Build a pipeline of new prospective donors. In collaboration with the board of directors, board of advisors, President, and senior management, identify, research, and cultivate major donor prospects and build long-term relationships. Develop and implement personalized strategies for major donors.
  4. Enhance and grow ECF’s legacy society.
  5. Serve as staff liaison to the Advancement Committee of the board of directors and work with directors and advisors in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding ECF’s donor base.
  6. Oversee the preparation of grant proposals in coordination with other staff.
  7. Maintain collaborative working relationships with other staff members to ensure maximum support for fund development throughout the organization.
  8. Create and foster a development culture throughout the organization that is consistent with ECF’s mission.
  9. Oversee fundraising operational systems including gift processing, tracking and donor acknowledgements.
  10. Coordinate all fundraising and donor cultivation events in collaboration with the Executive Assistant and Director of Communications.
  11. Prepare solicitation materials including direct mail/email appeals and newsletters.
  12. Prepare and present reports on a regular basis to the President, Board of Directors, and others.
  13. Devise effective internal and external messaging and methods of communication in collaboration with the Director of Communications.
  14. Serve as a member of the Executive Team.
  15. Work with the Chief Operating Officer/Vice President of Finance to ensure that all related areas comply with budget and other appropriate ECF policies and procedures.
  16. Represent ECF throughout the wider Church and present at conferences, workshops, and other events.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the President or the Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5-7 years of experience in fundraising at a leadership level.
  • Proven track record with individual donor fundraising success.
  • Familiarity with faith-based organizations especially the Episcopal Church.
  • Strong analytic and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in relationship management software (Salesforce).
  • Self-motivation combined with enthusiasm about working collaboratively and supporting the mission of ECF.

This is a full-time position with competitive benefits and a salary commensurate with experience. Although this position can work remotely from anywhere in the United States, residence in the NYC Metro area is preferred. Regular attendance at the ECF offices in NYC for interaction with ECF’s President and other staff members will be necessary. Travel on behalf of ECF will vary based on program needs.
