The Nature Conservancy is looking for an individual with fundraising or business development experience who wants to make a difference for nature and people. The Conservancy is a global conservation leader and one of the top fundraising charities in the United States.

The New York Director of Development III (DoD III) is responsible for directing all aspects of the New York development effort and team across New York State to secure significant financial resources from individuals, foundations, and corporations, to support the New York Division conservation programs including any initiatives hosted by the Division. They provide the development leadership to help facilitate the mission success of the Conservancy across New York. They establish the vision for areas of responsibility, identify and address key challenges, develop, synthesize and undertake a plan of action, and deliver targeted outcomes. The New York Director of Development officially reports to the Global Market Development Director and has an extremely close working relationship with the New York Executive Director, who also helps supervise them. The Director of Development serves on the NY Executive Team. The New York Director of Development will also work collaboratively with the New York Global Wealth Market Director of Development and Squad to coordinate work around donors’ interest in New York as well as for global priorities and work in non-US regions. 

 

This position will be located in New York City, New York.

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years related experience, including 3 years working at a senior level.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors, foundations and corporations.
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Experience working in a large, complex, not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of relevant field.
  • Management experience of a large multidisciplinary department, including planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
  • Effectively communicate via presentations, conversations, and documents.
  • Experience in managing a geographically dispersed team.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Expert understanding of best practices in non-profit management.
  • Knowledge of advanced gift planning concepts.
