The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism seeks
to hire two Directors of Development to advance the mission of the
Annenberg School by identifying, cultivating and soliciting major
gift prospects. The successful candidates will join a
high-performing, diverse, and collegial development team and work
mostly remotely. Both Directors of Development will report to the
Executive Director and be charged with developing and implementing
strategies for securing financial support from a portfolio of major
gift prospects.
The Director of Development will take over an existing portfolio of
major gift prospects in cultivation and solicitation, approximately
130+, who are alumni, parents and friends of USC Annenberg. They
will be tasked with raising funds for an array of financial
priorities across the Annenberg school to support the vision of
Dean Willow Bay. Demonstrated experience securing major gifts is
highly preferred.
The Director of Development (Centers) will be responsible for
developing and implementing strategies for securing financial
support from a portfolio of major donor prospects who are industry
leaders in public diplomacy and public relations. They will work
closely with the directors of the Center on Public Diplomacy and
Center for Public Relations and their boards of respected and
connected industry leaders to advance the research missions and
fundraising needs of the Centers. Prior experience working with
faculty and securing gifts from volunteer boards is highly
preferred for this dynamic role.
The Annenberg School aims to nurture a culture of giving among our donor prospects by strengthening our relationships with donors and prospective donors, and thinking creatively about new funding opportunities.
The ideal candidates will be self-motivated and exhibit a commitment to collaborative fundraising. They will possess excellent communications skills and demonstrate highly advanced organizational skills to maintain a broad spectrum of relationships. They must have excellent writing skills and demonstrated experience developing giving menus, proposals and other forms of written donor communication.
Celebrating its 50th Anniversary, the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism was founded in 1971 with generous support from the late Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg. Located in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, USC Annenberg has 103 full time faculty members, 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students, and dozens of research and public interest projects and programs. The School is a national leader in education and scholarship in the fields of communication, journalism, public diplomacy and public relations, offering doctoral, graduate and undergraduate degree programs, as well as continuing development courses for working professionals, across a broad scope of academic inquiry. The school’s comprehensive curriculum emphasizes the cores skills of leadership, innovation, service and entrepreneurship and draws upon the resources of a networked university located in the media capital of the world. Multidisciplinary and international in scope, focused and practical in application, USC Annenberg scholars, both students and faculty, are defining communication and journalism for the 21st century and beyond.
