Job Summary: 

The position of Director of Major Donor Relations exists to assist the entire University community in obtaining the financial resources necessary to fulfill its mission and achieve the ongoing vision of the Board of Trustees and the executive leadership team. The major donor program at MidAmerica Nazarene University is one of several complementary areas within the Office of University Advancement to assist in establishing a strong financial base for ongoing University operations and strategic planning. The Director works closely with other program directors under the supervision of the Vice President for University Advancement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Member of the development leadership team that serves to coordinate activity in fundraising and university relationships.
  • Works with colleagues responsible for the MNU University Fund, Planned Giving, MNU Foundation, and Alumni under the daily organization and coordination of the Vice President for University Advancement.
  • Has primary responsibility for organizing and implementing programs and activities that result in major gifts from alumni, University constituents, corporations, and foundations.
  • Assist the development team in identifying and cultivating relationships with persons and corporations who will donate a minimum of $10,000 annually to the University.
  • Conducts one-on-one solicitations, traveling as necessary, establishing and maintaining excellent donor relations, providing written proposals to major gift prospects as needed, and including University leadership as appropriate.
  • Has primary responsibility for corporate engagement and solicitation activities.
  • Plays an active supportive role to the Vice President for University Advancement in the planning and implementation of capital and endowment campaigns, especially related to major individual donors, corporations, and foundations.
  • Plan and implement, with the development leadership team, an annual program of work designed to maximize contact with potential major gift donors.
  • Organize and implement major fundraising among individual and corporate constituencies in local, regional and national contexts.
  • At the direction of the Vice President for University Advancement, represent the University in public meetings, civic events and service club programs where information about the University needs to be presented or information important to the University is presented.

 

Qualifications/Skills Required:  

  • A Bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement; preference will be given to persons with studies related to fundraising, organizational development, and community relations either by formal education or professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability with at least five years of progressive experience in fundraising, preferably with non-profit organizations and/or high education, are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate the need for financial resources at a Christian college or university and to close presentations successfully is a necessity.
  • Experience in working independently in a fast-paced environment without extensive administrative support and exceptional organizational abilities with fluency in managing multiple projects and competing priorities with professionalism and grace.
  • Demonstrated communication skills in both oral and written forms are required.
  • A familiarity with the principles and practices of wealth management is preferred.
  • Experience with individual and corporate foundations is preferred.
  • Experience in organizing and motivating volunteers is preferred.
