General Description: The Senior Director of
Strategic Giving (SDSG) is responsible for the overall strategic
direction, management and expansion of the major gifts and planned
giving programs as well as supporting the organizations Nourish
Campaign at the Food Depository. Additionally, this individual will
be charged with managing relationships and securing support from
donors who are capable of making gifts a minimum of $25,000 and
above with a focus on strategic multi-year principal gifts of
$100,000 or more.
The SDSG will manage a personal portfolio of approximately 35-50
prospects, as well as a team of 3-5 major gifts officers. The
individual will work with the Director of Annual Giving to develop
and implement a plan for expanded major gift/planned giving
fundraising and promote the acquisition of major and planned gifts
as well significant leadership gifts ($100,000 and above) while
managing an annual revenue goal of $15 million out of a $49 million
dollar individual giving revenue goal. The new role will support
and advance key equity, equity, diversity and inclusion efforts in
our fundraising. This individual will play a key leadership role in
the execution of the organizations $75m Nourish Campaign. Serves as
a member of development leadership, the Cross Department Leadership
team, and various cross-departmental project teams as needed.
The successful candidate will be
someone with a rich development background, who has had progressive
and successful experience in major/planned gifts and capital
campaign experience. The ideal candidate should have a track record
of management experience and coaching orientation and commitment to
mentoring major gifts officers. The individual will be able to
bridge frontline fundraising techniques with the organizations
priorities and key initiatives. The candidate will have a passion
for the mission and be able to translate that into relationship
building activities that demonstrate success. Finally, the SDSG
will infuse new approaches to fundraising that support the Food
Depository and the development departments equity, diversity and
inclusion initiatives.
Key
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Develop and implement annual plan
that includes clear goals and objectives for growing annual major
gifts as well as strategic major gifts as well as metrics to
monitor success.
Ability to convert strategic
initiative focused donors to renewing leadership annual giving
donors at major gift levels.
Collaborate with the Director of
Annual Giving (DAG) to create and integrated and seamless
experience for individual donors.
Provide strategy, guidance to inform
the organizations Phase 2 of the Nourish Campaign.
Supervise 3-5 Major Gifts
Officers
Identification and cultivation
Develop top prospect lists based on
giving histories, research and anecdotal knowledge.
Collaborate with team leaders on a
top prospect list for the Nourish Campaign.
Create individualized cultivation
strategies for a select number of donors each quarter, based on
guidance from senior management and in line with overall
fundraising strategies.
Manage portfolio of 35-50
prospects.
Solicitation and moves management
Work with the Chief Philanthropy
Officer and senior management to execute solicitations of potential
major/principal gift donors.
Oversee annual solicitation strategy
and moves management process for major, principal and campaign
gifts team and senior leadership.
Oversee solicitations for top Nourish
Campaign prospects.
Oversee and contribute writing to
creation of personalized proposals for donor solicitations.
Recognition and stewardship
Collaborate with the Senior Director
of Stewardship and Operations to develop recognition opportunities
for major donors, which may include special events, targeted print
and online publications, and/or physical sites for permanent
acknowledgements.
Provide input on personalized
stewardship reports for major donors.
Collaborate with other team members
regarding stewardship.
Planned Giving Program
Provide leadership and guidance to
the continued development of a robust planned giving program.
Collaborate with the Senior Planned
Giving Officer to integrate planned giving in all aspects of our
major gift program
Collaborate with the Director of
Annual Giving to grow the awareness of planned giving with annual
and direct response donors
Cross department collaboration
Work with the SD of CFO and Director
of Annual Giving to establish cross-team strategies and donor
engagement
Activity participate with colleagues
across the department and Chief Philanthropy Officer
to support team wide initiatives.
Interact with the Development team to
support integrated fundraising efforts.
Work across the organization to
advance funding opportunities through institutional partners.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with 7+ years
development experience.
Minimum of 3-5 years of management
experience in development as well as major gifts.
Experience working with high-level
donors, volunteers and colleagues on collaborative activities.
Experience with capital campaigns,
planned giving and major gift solicitation.
Understanding and commitment to
embrace equity, diversity and inclusion in fundraising
practices.
Demonstrated initiative and desire to
take on new projects.
Superb interpersonal skills and the
ability to actively listen.
Excellent written and oral
communication skills.
Effective presentation and
negotiation skills.
Highly organized & attentive to
detail.
Adaptable and flexible, with ability
to handle several priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced
environment.
Team-oriented and collaborative with
the ability to work independently.
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook.
Development database experience
(Raisers Edge experience desirable).
Current Covid vaccination
record required for
employment.
Exposure:
General office environment; limited
exposure to warehouse environment.
Interacts with GCFD staff, board
members, financial donors, volunteers and general public.
Local travel depending on events;
evening and weekend hours are required.
