Director of Development       Job Summary

This recruitment is an opportunity to join a dynamic and successful fundraising team supporting UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, consistently ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report. With campuses in San Francisco and Oakland, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals is working to improve the health of children through innovative research, clinical care, and advocacy, grounded in an unwavering commitment to serving the most vulnerable children and families in our community.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will work with hospital leadership, faculty, nurses, and staff to support key programs and priorities within the UCSF Children’s Health enterprise, including UCSF’s Pediatric Cancer & Pediatric Diabetes Program. The Director will have the opportunity to work directly with UCSF physician-scientists who are driving the latest research to improve outcomes for children with cancer and other diseases. An intellectual curiosity about biomedical science will be essential as you work with faculty to understand the high-level implications of their research and communicate the associated philanthropic opportunities to potential donors. Existing and potential donors include both grateful patient families and community philanthropists who do not have a direct clinical connection but share our passion for improving children’s health. In addition to fundraising for research, clinical and hospital programs, this position will also play a key fundraising role in a planned capital campaign to enhance our Oakland hospital.

This position will join a collaborative team of Children’s Health fundraisers. You will be a valued thought partner for an Executive Director who is invested in your success. Successful candidates will exhibit excellent communication and relationship building skills. They will also combine a detail-orientated approach to major gift fundraising with the vision and perspective to help steer broader fundraising strategies.

In the first month, you will establish relationships with key internal partners in the Development Office and across the Children’s Hospitals, familiarize yourself with our systems and policies, and begin communicating with prospects in your portfolio. That portfolio combines high-capacity donors and newly identified prospects.

Within six months, you will have developed a detailed understanding of key philanthropic priorities, built rapport with faculty fundraising partners, and be closing major gifts.

With the first year, you will participate in the development and implementation of philanthropy training programs for faculty partners, steer strategic stewardship and pipeline development efforts, and participate in a range of fundraising initiatives focused on advancing the health of children.

This position is eligible for a hybrid of onsite and remote work as business needs allow. Take the next step in your development career by joining the UCSF Children’s Health fundraising team.
