 About Singula Institute:

Founded in 2018, Singula Institute is a technologically-assisted, precision medicine mental health research clinic, transforming the lives of people suffering from anxiety and depression through our integrated biopsychosocial approach. Singula Institute’s innovative model is comprised of our clinical approach, which is based on an integration of psychological and biological models of depression; our clinical research that leverages cutting-edge technology analyzing clinical treatment progress within a closed-loop scientific method to individualize clinical treatment; and our social impact community that will educate and disseminate our research findings to reduce stigma and foster a more mentally healthy society.

Our first large-scale initiative will be to build a bio-behavioral database achieved through enrollment into our clinical research program as well as through collaborations with academic and non-academic clinical institutions. The data obtained from these sources will be analyzed and used to directly inform clinical diagnosis and treatment. Our second initiative will be to change mental health paradigms at a larger population level (rather than limited within our clinic) through collaborations and partnerships with community-based programs and local primary care practices, applying our data-driven methods to form educational programming, thereby making larger scale community interventions.

Since its inception 3 years ago, Singula Institute has made significant progress towards our strategic planning goals:

  • Built a board and advisory team of professionals with expertise in healthcare, healthcare systems, neuroscience, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, communications, and labor law; all committed to Singula’s mission.
  • Obtained initial start-up funds from well-respected and highly regarded philanthropic families
  • Established key strategic collaborations/partnerships with organizations that share in the mission and vision of Singula Institute
  • Established several protocols to accomplish our clinical research goals
  • Created a Social Impact Community with a focus on educational programming to a mass audience through increasing our social media presence and as a consultant to Healthline/PsychCentral and HealthiNation, two medical educational outreach organizations
  • Created a legal and business structure to pair the non-profit organization with the clinical care delivery entity
  • Created a viable business plan to implement our clinical research program and clinical care services
  • Worked with two well-established marketing firms on the brand strategy and brand identity; currently working with a website designer to revamp our website
  • Currently working with the board and advisors on our donor-focused messaging
  • Currently creating a panel-discussion event that can bring about conversation of the complexity of mental health issues and the current treatments for anxiety and depression
  • Job Responsibilities:

    Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Development will lead a comprehensive fundraising effort on behalf of Singula Institute. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and leading the development operation of the Institute, including our current $1.5M Capital Campaign, which is in its early stages, in addition to the identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects with capacity to make gifts of all amounts, with particular emphasis on those who may consider gifts of $25,000 or more.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Assist in the strategic planning for and leading the day-to-day management of the Capital Campaign for Singula Institute; This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating staff assigned to assist with the Campaign, and managing volunteer engagement
    • Expand individual donor prospect plan; Identify new opportunities for major gifts through proactive prospecting as well as ongoing cultivation of Singula Institute’s current major funders
    • Cultivate and build upon submission plan for institutional foundation grants; Relationship cultivation involves submitting LOI’s, door opener letters, and grant proposals with follow up plans for each
    • Aid in the development of fundraising events; events will range from intimate gatherings of 15-25 attendees to galas of 100-150 attendees
    • Identify and evaluate additional funding sources and potential grant opportunities for mental health innovation and mental health technology
    • Evaluate and conduct outreach establishing relationships with private and corporate-based philanthropies
    • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 highly-rated Institute prospects to strengthen their ties to the organization by discovering their interests and crafting giving opportunities which match their interests with Singula Institute.
    • Involve, coordinate, and strategize with advisors, current donors, and board of directors, in order to serve donors optimally and to secure gifts of $100,000 or higher.
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • 4+ years development experience (primarily in major gifts fundraising) or other related senior experience in a philanthropic environment
    • Weekly virtual meetings
    • Travel as needed in the Northeast region, with a minimum of travel to Manhattan for meetings
    Other Requirements

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage the time of advisors and volunteers, and demonstrated success in all phases of personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding large gifts ($25,000 and above) from individuals
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
    • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines
    • The ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner
    • The capacity to clearly communicate the mission of Singula Institute is required
    • Strong skills with writing professional reports, grants, and presentations
    • High integrity needed to handle confidential information
    • High level of computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, social media) required
    • Creative, intuitive, and dynamic in navigating the mental health, health technology, and fundraising spaces
    • Flexibility and the demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Enthusiasm for the pursuit of personalized medicine and mental health strongly desired; belief in the mission of the organization
    • Strong desire to meet and exceed goals
    • Self-motivated and able to move prospects through the donor engagement process autonomously

    Pay structure will be based on a competitive salary + incremental bonus
